    Though he became a more rounded & complete fighter later on in his career I think that fight is probably McCallum at his physical peak, he never looked quicker or more relentless.

    Agree about Kalule, his fight with Kalambay is worth a watch if you havent seen it.

    They stuffed him into the 154 limit for far too long.

    Back in the day I hated Kalambay purely because of beating Mike but as I got older and Youtube allowed better access to old fights I came to realise what a solid fighter he was.
    I read an interesting article and a portion of a book by Jim Brady about Kalule.The WBA did everything they could to keep him from getting his hands on the belt even though he was the mandatory.
    In fact I'll dig out that article and post the link now;

    I wonder if that was the problem with his rapid descent.He should maybe have gone straight up to middle after Ray.He just seems so big for a light middle.

    He was!

    Leonard actually got to him before he was dead at the weight. So good thing that, eh? :yep

    Ray would have got to him at 175 in 81.And Holmes too!:twisted:

    Kalule actually appealed against the result of that fight.

    Good read that, cheers for posting. Sumbu was an awesome fighter, the 1st McCallum fight is one of my all time favourites.

    That seems to happen to a lot of Africans. Quartey & Clottey both suffered from cutting too much weight too often.

    I <3333 the Marquez vs. Mabuza pair, as a huge fan of both men.

    It was a case of very good (which, at the time, Silence was) vs. simply great.

    Overshadowed and forgotten a bit once Rafa moved up and had the trilogy, but this was a fantastic little rivalry even if it was relatively brief and decisive in one man's favor.

    I remember this looked like it was shaping up to be quite competitive for a round and a bit;

    Erik's counterpunching accuracy and amazing angles are far better here;

    Cracking thread going here. The best part is it hasnt been ruined by immaturity, flaming or one central ongoing personal feud.

    On the earlier mention of duddy i think the walid smichet fight has to be up there. the first round is one of the most entertaining rounds you will ever see. I suppose among hardcore fans its fairly well known so perhaps its not one of his less celebrated fights in that sense. From duddys standpoint it wasnt one of his better nights either.

    Ricky Hatton v Ray Oliviera was mentioned and is a good shout, one of hattons most spectacular performances.

    Im not a huge khan fan but his fight against michael gomez was an early indication that he would be exciting to watch going forward, and it isnt oft mentioned.

    The thing about Khan back then is that he was still a humble kid who guaranteed excitement so rather than slate his chin,it added to the excitement kind of like the way Cotto was so exciting at 140.

    Seems so long ago when it was easy to like Khan.
