i am sure everyone who he is boxer, former ufc champ [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cXy7IkM8qU[/ame] seems to think triceps are important for power
Being as how he was gassed after one round while getting his ass handed to him by Cain, i'll pass on any conditioning tips from JDS.
What sort of two bit strength coach has his athlete believing that triceps are important for punching power? Being able to do a basic biomechanical analysis of a movement should be elementary stuff for a strength coach.
meh he trains like a casual every day joe weight lifter who does some cardio. Not too impressive, really. Nothing new here, and skills and stamina are, you know, at least something that should be a matter of focus.
To be fair the strength coach never said anything, that was JDS' view. Maybe he thinks the same but you don't know. He calls that a strength workout?
He was gassed because he was badly hurt in the first round, never really recovered, and Cain set a pace that he's not used to. Defending multiple takedown attempts for 5 rounds is definitely an exercise that will wear you out. That being said, and far be it for me to give a world class athlete any advice but his workout there looked quite pedestrian. Didn't seem much like a Strength/Conditioning routine. And most of the exercises were isolation exercises that would have little to no relevance for strength or conditioning when also taking into account the poundage. He needs to join HammerHouse if he wants to learn real conditioning... :yep
Agreed. That workout would suit a bodybuilder more than it would a professional fighter! GSP has some great training highlights that Junior's coach could learn from.
It would barely suit a BB unless the poundage was higher. And yeah GSP definitely has the some of the better S/C routines iv seen for an MMA fighter. He really mixes it up and trains with a very high intensity. Problem is its difficult to go all out in training while staving off injury's. Unless you're on juice of course...........
He looked done within about 20 seconds of the fight... Obviously his training should NOT be replicated =/
i find a few things funny 1, saying his conditioning is bad because of 1 fight where he fight for 3 round while being based knocked out... 2. most of people dont really understand, cardio is a bit different when there is grappling involved, (dont trust me, PLEASE try ONE bjj or wrestling class and you will see) 3. saying he is an arm puncher, lol i want to be an arm puncher like him who ko's all these beasts he fights... while all these perfect punchers you guys will mention hit each other 400 times and nothing happens..... i know i know, size of gloves and defense skills but still one cheap shot deserves another 4. people not likeing that he does bodybuilding style not more usual S and C stuff, something tells me he knows more about fighting then most of the people on internet forms, and this type of training has made him quiet strong, example-a wicked wrestler like cain not being able to hold him down... 5. when you grapple alot, you get alot of pains in places like shoulders or lats etc and isolation excersies like what he is doing help make those pains go away, again if you never grappled you just wont understand... 6. as a boxer, i am happy and proud to see this guy fight
