Fights in which a "mindless brawler" boxed an opponents ears off

Title pretty much says it all.

What are some fights that featured a perceived mindless brawler shuffling up the deck and boxing his opponents ears off.

The one that springs to mind immediately for me is the obvious Froch-Abraham fight. Pretty much no one knew he had it in him. Before the fight a lot of people were tipping Abraham behind the logic that Froch's defense was so awful and Abraham only need to land 1 big punch on that chin. Instead Froch put on a 1-sided clinic.


A lesser known one was Martin Honorio boxing John Molina Jr's ears off. Honorio was brought in just to be an opponent. Molina was the big punching light weight prospect that called up the smaller Honorio...a guy who is typically a pressure fighter...to his weight class to be a KO victim. It didn't happen. The smaller Honorio befuddled him with movement, disrupted him with the jab, countered, froze Molina with combinations, etc. It was as woefully onesided as Froch vs Abraham, but still shocking if you have seen a lot of Honorio's fights (Honorio repeated this feat in his next bout against Wilton Hilario).

Most people thought Stieglitz was either gonna box Arthur's ears off or Arthur knocks him out, being behind on all cards.

That fight made me realize that certain fighters just have that perfect timing. Froch is a limited fighter but he acts at the right times and Bute had no idea what to do.

 

This notion only exists because people don't seem to realise that Froch isn't a pressure fighter and never really has been before he hit world level. He's typically been a measured front-foot fighting counter puncher, but seems to have realised that at world level at 168, there's guys with the speed and skills to capitalize on that so he's become more aggressive and putting to better use his intangibles.

Also people don't seem to realise how good he was defensively early against Dirrell. He was making him miss or picking off every jab and his footwork was actually pretty nifty in shifting in and out of range. He was outjabbing Dirrell when the American tried to have a jabbing battle with him out of the orthodox stance in the centre of the ring early, and Dirrell was woefully inaccurate until the latter rounds when he stepped it up a bit.

Froch had the reflexes to be able to move his chin out of the way of Dirrell's quick fire jabs and the footspeed to often shift off the front foot back out of the way of Dirrell's straights or jabs to the body. Frankly if he wanted to box Abraham he could have done it all day long and anybody should have seen that. It was just a case of whether he'd be able to stay composed enough to do it and not see the red mist and get involved in a brawl.
