Leonard vs Ranzany was pretty spectacular for the way Ray really went after Pete once he had him hurt. A real showcase of how to finish, great variety & not just punch selection but speed as well.

I bought a DVD set (before Youtube)that a guy told my pal was Ray's "complete career" and I loved the Ranzany fight.
Was a bit shocked to find out Ray only had 27 fights though:huh

Pipino Cuevas vs Ranzany is a fun 5 minute fight, Ranzany was tough & could certainly take a shot.

Ray uses precision, technique & speed, Pipino just brutalises him

Yet on another thread, someone is currently claiming Ranzany was a just a bum on Ray Leonard's padded record:patsch

Yrs ago was a fan of Cesar Bazan. He was fighting another over the hill fighter, Carlos "Topo" Gerena. Topo built an early lead, but I told everyone watching with me Cesar could drop Topo at anytime. BOOM! Seconds later, Gerena goes down in front of his hometown, but goes on to win a decision. Perfect example of never get too confident. Lopez-Quartey was alot funner than Vargas-Quartey. LaPorte vs Sanchez, Pedroza, and Chavez get overlooked.

Already mentioned FMJ-Chavez, but Morales also had a stirring battle with Jesus. Chavez gave him all he could handle, despite suffering two hard kd's and an injury to his right arm that rendered it almost useless,

I love Carl Froch vs Brian Magee and Tony Dodson.

The Magee fight was a close but cracking war, in which Carl prevailed with a devastating KO despite breaking his hand early in the fight.

In the Dodson fight, there was genuine needle there and that was the most focused i've ever seen Carl (apart from the Bute fight). He looked ****ing evil during his ring walk and demolished Dodson with a brutal body shot.

Look at him here though compared to the MAB that destroyed Enrique Sanchez. He catches some flack for being predominantly left handed, but MAB pretty much won the fight with Sanchez on the right hand alone. He looked so composed in there against a capable opponent, it all just came to him so easily. That's one of the main reasons I consider post-Jones to be the best ever version of MAB. He had more weapons at his disposal. When did we ever see MAB dominate with the right hand during his days at 122lbs? We didn't.

Here's another absolute gem from the Baby Faced Assassin. He may not have been polished at this weight, in my opinion, but his offensive arsenal was always top tier.

Always liked Leonards performance v Lalonde. Leonards was way past his best and too heavy and was having trouble making his mark on the fight after 4 or 5 rounds despite Lalondes limited ability.

Typical Leonard though, he quit trying to fight the heavier man going backwards and stood his ground and eventually broke Lalonde down before finishing him off with his trade mark combinations.

The Magee fight was when I really started buying into Carl.If anything,he was even better box office back then.

I forgot all about Croft Addie.Textbook use of the left hand and I remember trying (poorly:patsch) to emulate that ducking left to the body on the bag after seeing that.

    Great shouts everyone.Keep 'em coming.

Back then,I was always just happy to see Ray fight and I didn't appreciate that it was maybe time to quit because I was just thrilled to be able to watch him.
As I got older I knew my motives were selfish, but I absolutely loved the Lalonde fight.
I think Ray thought he could put on a show thinking Lalonde would be drained but he had to dig very deep and it's an underrated performance IMO Headbanger.

yeah i agree with you, i'd only seen tapes and tv programme on Leonards early career and loved his style but it was only after his long retirement and comback for the hagler, lalonde, hearns2, duran3 fights that i would stay up till 4am and watch his fights live. such a great boxer, stylish and classy but underneath it, he was such a gutsy and charasmatic fighter, someone who flourished in the face of adversity, someone who produced his best when it was all on the line.

    Roy Jones-Clinton Woods.

Considering that Woods would go on to be a high level LHW,and world champ, the beating that Jones put on him was massively impressive.

Jones-Malinga is in the same category
