Keith Thurman vs. Jan Zaveck nearly done deal for March 9th.

I know Keith Thurman is a great puncher, but is he a good BOXER?

Can someone answer this question as I don't know enough about Keith Thurman.

 

Thurman is still unproven so it'll be interesting to see if a) he can exploit that high guard on the inside without getting countered and b) how his chin holds up when he gets countered. In any case, he's gonna have to commit to the jab and be patient. If he tries to blow Dejan out in the first couple rounds, he's gonna get schooled.

My gut tells me that Thurman is gonna be patient, use the jab and look for opportunities to potshot from the outside.

He's not very quick, so he'll never be a really good boxer. He does have a world class trainer developing him and extremely heavy hands. I think he'll be a very good slugger in his prime. Not special, but very good and fun to watch.

 

Good fight, Thurman by KO. Zaveck is tough and likes to mix it up but Thurman is good at keeping a guy at the end of his punches and unleashing his bombs.

 

Nice step up for Thurman. I don't think Zaveck has dealt with someone with Thurman's power before, and who knows how he'd do at 154. I also do think that Thurman, overall, is just a better schooled fighter than Berto, and he'll be able to take this.

 

He can box when he needs to, he just hasn't needed to yet. His trainer (Dan Birmingham, former 2x trainer of the year) says he's one of the top fighters he's ever trained, and that includes guys like Winky Wright and Chad Dawson.

 

This fight would be awesome. I think Thurman eventually finds him through the guard and TKOs him, but Zaveck is tough.

 

Interesting to see all the good words for Zavek. I must admit I don't know much about him, except for the Jackewiz fight. He seems pretty fast, with really good defensive head movement, so if Thurman stays on the outside he might be able to control things.

The one thing that strikes me, just from Boxrec, is that Zavek is a natural 146 lbs, whereas Thurman is naturally at least 5 lbs heavier. Not a huge difference, but combine that with Thurman's aggressive nature and his proclivity to bang on the inside, and it definitely gives him a small edge. If he takes it right to Zavek, I think he wins easily & by KO. But again, I'm basing this on very little knowledge of Zavek.

zaveck is old isnt he? i thought i remember him being like 35 when he fought berto. wasnt that like 2 yrs ago. so he could be around 37 or 38 . he mite not have alot left in the tank and just wanna cash in on one more check then retire. keith has that youth and hunger .. well he should and we will figure out if it even goes down. but its a still a step up in class lora and quintana were decent fights a javeck is deff better then both of them , the age factor is the biggest reason to roll wit thurman on this one.

Imo, Zavek is certainly no better than Quintana.
