Really? I don't see anything controversial at all about it.
A fair stoppage. Of anything Vit was given a couple of more rounds. The fight could have been stopped after 3. His cut was far worse than Charrs for example.

Fight went like this.

Young guy starts fast, lands done good shots on old champ. Has him a bit wobbly.
After 2 champs corner says forget boxing, just hit him with the kitchen sink and make it a brawl.
Next round champ opens huge cut. Pounds on it for 3 rounds opening many more cuts.
Fight stopped after 6 to save young guys eye.

None of it was controversial.

Cut clearly caused by a punch. Fight had to be stopped.

Vits corner was stuffing gauze into his eye at the end of the 6th. They knew he was done too.

Vitaly lost for 2 reasons.
1) he didn't finish Lewis when he had him hurt.
2) the lean away defence he employs works against most guys. But not against a guy with the size and reach of Lewis. And especially not if that guy is willing to take 2 of Vitalis shots to land one if his own. Which Lewis did for the last few rounds.
Lewis found a home for his right hand on Vits left cheek. Vits defence is what let him down.

 

I voted for Vitali looking like a used tampon against Lewis

It the injuries where really that bad like it seems so in 2005, Vitali would never come back and continue his career for more than 4 years.

Vitali is much better than Wladimir ever was and would kill him prime v prime in a matchup just like Vitali schooled Lewis.
