Then let him. He only has 11 fights as a pro. He needs to pay his dues just like every other fighter does. Please don't pretend he looked sensational against guys like Cordoba or Marroquin, either. Meanwhile Mares and Donaire have both been fighting in either tournaments, or against established beltholders. Mares just whooped the guy no one wanted to fight (Moreno) and who many thought would soundly school him.

He deserves it way more than Rigo does at this point.

Why can't Rigondeaux go chase down the Nishiokas and Morenos, collect some solid wins and THEN take a crack at the crown? And this is coming from someone who thinks Rigo is a stylistic nightmare for Donaire.

    Better fight than Rigo.

If he does Mares-John-Salido I'll be very very impressed.

its business, you all talk about PPV numbers being the draw etc... this too is part of that business. it has protected allot of GBP fighters from facing TR fighters

  4. That was a co-promotion with Lou Dibella though. Arum wants no part of Oscar or Schaefer. I like Top Rank by the way but from what I've gathered the bobster absolutely doesn't want the golden boys to make a dime off him.

Rigondeaux doesn't have an opponent for that February date, and has repeatedly said whatever date Donaire wants..

He struggled with Cordoba in his first time going 12 rounds..and has looked marvelous since. He got rocked by Marroquin, once when Roberto stepped on his foot, and the second when he was showboating....and he carved him up in every other instance. Put him down twice and looked two or three levels above.

Why didn't Vasquez Jr coming off a loss have to get some solid wins? Why didn't Mathebula? Nishioka hadn't fought in a year. Why does Rigo have to earn it when they have done little to nothing to get the Donaire fight?

I hope it happens. I feel Mares is a tougher fight than Rigo because Mares will push Nonito around and use borderline tactics. We'll see what kind of inside game Donaire the self proclaimed warrior has.

If Mares wants the fight and Golden Boy works for him then I don't see why it can't happen. Seriously. At the end of the day the fighter has the choice not the promotion company. It's BS when fighters say talk to my promotor. That's what shielded fighters say.

Mares is going to get spanked in this fight if he doesnt get DQ'd first which is always a possibility

Definitely a possibility! I don't like Mares' style but I dislike Nonito's personality more and hope Mares comes through with some low blows.

How do either of these descriptions apply to Mares' resume at 122? How do they apply to Vazquez Jr, Mathebula, and Arce?

my suggestion to solve this problem...
Rigo vs Mares, the winner gets( by written and signed agreement)a fight with Nonito in the summer.
That way TR and GBP can work out some agreements while matching Rigo-Mares to clear the path for future fights. The last time they both worked together was precisely a cuban vs mexican more than 1 yr ago( gamboa vs PDL)

Golden Boy will never ever make that fight.
