Now that we've had a decisive outcome in 4 fights, why, or why isn't Marquez Greater than Manny Pacquiao? I know that many argue that Manny Pacquiao is the Greater fighter (more division titles), and go on to say that he has lost a step in the same breathe.... Shouldn't JMM be awarded for longevity? What say you? :thumbsup
Please explain, it never, ever made sense. I say that with the utmost respect. If Pac did Greater things in the ring, then how can he be Greater when compared to a man that knocked him cold after 3 close fights? Sorry if that sounds argumentative.
I'm not the Boxing aficionado whom make up this Section, so have mercy. I will sit back as best as I can, and let this topic take it's course.
Pacquiao, Barrera, Casamayor, Diaz, Katsidis, Gainer vs Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, Diaz, Satsuke, etc? It's really not close in favour of Pac.
In the same way that Mosley is arguably greater than Forrest despite dropping two decisions to him in his prime.
I don't see how Morales, Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, and Satsuke outweigh returing to Mexico with the head of Manny Pacquiao. Isn't Pacman Greater than the fighter's that I just listed? Guess I got an unfavorable view when it comes to ranking fighters, I and one other :!: Before the knockout seen around the World I had the two Greats in close proximity, and I shouldn't have to say twice (but, I will) that the 4th fight did it for me. Ken Norton was no Great, neither was Vernon Forrest (rest his soul), but Evander Holyfield was and his wins over Tyson is what seperates the two. Prime Tyson may have been a very impressive fighter, but when we say Tyson, especially in this Section, we look at the big picture. And the big picture, imo, that JMM fought the two best fighters of his era, and in the end was only topped by one of those men. We just can't say the same for Pacman, who lie face down ass up, $40 million dollars out the bank, and a super fight away from immortality. Who knows if he could have beaten Mayweater, but what we know is what we know. What is left is what's left. So as the smoke clears, and I pick up the pieces, I just don't feel that Marquez is getting the credit he deserves for beating whom half believed to be the p4p King over the past few years. The man who took on all comers, defied size and weight disadvantages, taking titles in the process. Juan Manuel Marquez is the Rodney Dangerfield of Boxing, and in time I hope that changes.
This is a good comparison. Not only do I feel Mosley is definitely greater than Forrest, I consider him to have been a 'better' fighter as well. It's just that he'd never beat him in an actual fight. The way those two meshed together inside the ring favored Forrest, in a big way, but I'd expect Mosley to do better against most common opponents. I think he was a better fighter who just ran into a guy who had his number. Pac's greater than Marquez, and I think he was better too, but the style clash certainly favors JMM.
That's just an absurd perspective.... Vernon Forrest had two Title Fights, two dozen rounds with Mosley, and JMM also won more rounds than the man in question. My goodness, along with a stylistic advantage, if that isn't even to sway your opinion at this very moment, then God bless your little heart. Your cold blooded sir, your cold blooded.
There is no way Marquez can rank over Pacman. He won when Manny was getting older, and Manny fought everyone unlike Marquez.
I believe Marquez did better against Barerra too, watch Pacman's rematch with MAB again if you don't believe me.
