Muhammad Ali had the best jab Ive seen. He threw it with blinding speed but it also carried some smoke on it. Hearns jab was so long and had alot of pop. Hagler`s right jab was brutal and devastating. Larry Holmes had a slower {not slow} but even harder version of Ali`s jab. Ike Quartey. Its basically all he had but he was still real good.
You are right, Quartey did have a good jab. A great jab and not much else. Good power if he could land it. Which is why when he fought Oscar both had good jabs and nothing happened until the other one landed punches since that is when each of them had the range to land anything.

To me, Foster seemed to out jab Ali or at least come out even in that area of the battle which is remarkable for a less powerful man. Ernie Terrell won the jab war against Foster because of the weight aspect, and that he was taller, but Foster later improved technically and held a height advantage at 175lbs. The best jabber in that division I think.
Foster had a beast of a jab, but it was somewhat aided by his physical dimensions and power.Perfect for him , but i doubt it would have looked so effective on someone like Pierre Fourie.He wasn't a versatile technical master with it like various other light heavies, but that didn't matter. In his very brief prime Lonnie Bennett's jab was as good as Fosters and for similar reasons, though a bit more textbook.
You're right, Foster wasn't technically versatile - but he did know how to slip n' jab, and like you said, jabbed with power at a great distance. I think he would be one of the harder ones to out box - even Ezzard Charles I think would have to turn puncher.
Don't forget Ken Buchanan for his class jabbing, he definitely wouldn't look out of place on a list of great jabbers!
