One of my favorites is Holyfield vs Tyson. Mikey was younger, faster and more powerful, yet Holy walked him down, took control and eventually knocked him out Mike Tyson.

Holy got the tko, not ko. You could argue that holy was more "athletic", he was
much bigger than Mike. Holys best win tied with Bowe 2. Anyway my vote
is Mayweather vs Judah. Judah cracked Money with flush shots, Judahs speed
advantage was significant. Second half of the fight Mayweather adjusted and dominated
Judah via scientific skills. Louis vs Conn? Or would you attribute Louiss win to
Conn being stupid as he himself put it. Morrison Foreman, prob not what youre looking
for, but Tommy fought smart and outboxed a physical force of nature.
    Young vs Foreman

I suppose Jorge Paez catching up to Calvin Grove (x2) would qualify - whilst Jorge had that Circus Top Tumbler Athleticism, i would of taken Calvin to beat him in serious Track and Field events.

Body type? So, it's basically just the eye test?

Don't the results determine the "athleticism" i.e. the better the practitioner of a given athletic endeavor being the better athlete.

Is that more athletic than the guy who runs around or through defenders? Don't the results determine the athletic ability?

    Or is it just flash?

Even as a sub 6-footer, I could dunk the hell out of basketball. But I was a crappy basketball player. Does that mean I was more athletic than the guys who were scoring on me at will?

Still trying to wrap my head around this term.

A good example is Trevor Berbick controlling Greg Page for most of their fight.

its a vauge term, i described how i use it, others probably mean different things.

the guys who run around or through defenders are a different, also valid, example. jim brown(through) and barry sanders(around) are guys i would consider very gifted natural athletes

maybe body type didn't convey what i meant, stuff like fast/slow twitch fibres would be included. as well as co-ordination, lung capacity, basically attributes that either cant be trained, or can be trained but some don't need the training because they do it naturally.

how about strongmen, lots of big people could train all they want and never do that stuff. every year at world's strongest man there are new guys who kill one event but dont have the experience or training to compete for the title

most thin people could never be ballet dancers or gymnasts.

if the guy beating you is slow and unfit but has perfected one shot and keeps doing it then you are the better athlete to me, he is just good at one shot

being the better athlete doesn't mean the winner to me because there are other factors, tactics, styles, mental stuff, luck, and others all play a part in who wins. If usain bolt false starts out of his next race he was still the most natural athlete in it.

I would say pac is more ahletic than marquez

I would say Marquez is more athletic than Pac. He has demonstrated better results in an athletic arena.

i like your question and asking for a definition of athletic

i take athleticism as excelling in common traits needed for sports in general: speed, reflexes, strength, timing, etc. Some fighters rely on those rather than genership, strategy, conventional rechnique, etc.

When Hagler faced Hearns. Didn't give Hearns a chance to get his boxing set up. Hagler made him fight a street fight.
