Besides Ali, Tyson, Floyd, Jack Johnson, Pacquiao, who else transcended the sport?

    Floyd didn't transcend the sport.

Ali is the only one to TRULY transcend the sport. When he dies it will send shock waves through the world.

Tyson transcended it as well, but Ali became a cultural icon.

Explain how? For me, you could go anywhere in the world and the average Joe would recognise you. You think that happens to Floyd? Doubt it, very much so.

Even though I love Ray,he goes a bit like DeNiro in Casino with the smoking jacket, cravats and silk pyjamas and ****.
I'd say he easily transcended the sport.

And Frank Bruno was pretty shite yet was a huge celebrity in the UK.
    Yep.Transcended the sport.

Leonard of course, in the early 80s. Duran in the 70s and 80s. He was the nutsack tugging, f-u flicking badboy before Tyson came along. Still, everybody loved him.

    Transcened?

I think you need to look that word up. A fighter would have to achieve something significant OUTSIDE of the sport.

The only ones can think of are Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, & Ali.

Maybe Pac & Vitali if you want to include political achievement, I guess.

Hamed was pretty known by sports fans around here when he was big. Floyd would probably be able to walk down the streets of the capital here today without being recognized. Goes to show how the sport has declined..

Sugar Ray Leonard. As a kid in the 80s, the guy was everywhere. Even moms liked Sugar Ray.
