Cloud is too young, too strong, and too active for old ass Hopkins. If Hopkins wins, this is a top 5 win for him, IMO.
Dawson and Pascal fought Hopkins on their backfoot while Hopkins was the aggressor. I think this time Hopkins will be the one fighting on his backfoot while Cloud will be the aggressor, this may give a 83 year old BHop a good chance as he has mastered the art of defensive fighting/counter punching.
When I pick Bernard,he loses,so I'm going for Cloud. Still can't help feel that there's a good reason that Bernard picked him and not Cleverly though. Clev is far too busy for this version of Bernard and it would be too painful to see him lose to a guy who couldn't live with him eight or nine years ago.
Dawson was the aggressor and Pascal took turns with Bernard...Bernard is not going to be effective coming forward. Too predictable. He's an ambush clinch fighter.
Not for me on a personal level mate.I've started spending a lot more time on the Brit forum nowadays.:scaredas:
Tricky fight... Cloud goes into this fight with something to prove... Only way I see B hop winning is Cloud gets over anxious and over commits with the power nd inside gae... B Hop is still live.. Clould needs implament a game plan with A, B & C options... Hop is ging to set traps.. nd Cloud hasn't show me much ring intellegence since I been watching him..
If Hopkins is close to what he was when he lost to Dawson, I expect he will grind out a victory against Cloud.
I think Hopkins can control the pace of the fight against Cloud. He will make it his fight and its gong to be close. Not saying Bernard wins but he doesn't take this fight at this stage in his career if he doesn't think he can win... I think he can.
he's old man but Cloud suits his style to a T. Nard can outbox him but it comes down to the judges for the most part. Do you score Hopkins landing a couple of lead rights and making a mess of the fight or do you score Cloud's activity
I guess what it all comes down to is how much Hopkins' accurate counters (because he should land against Cloud flush often) and traps slow Cloud down, but I think Bernard will be able to control the range better, and I don't think Cloud can keep him at distance the way Chad did. Agreed, his style makes a nice fit for Bernard. It's funny, because I feel like I've been saying this for almost 10 ****ing years now, but it depends on whether Bernard ages significantly following his most recent effort. I've been rewatching The Sopranos lately from the beginning, and in the first few seasons they have the WTC in the background in a quick shot of the opening credits. They stopped after 911 and that's right before Hopkins defeated Trinidad (in a bout that was pushed back because of 911). It amazes me how long he's been at since his mid-30s and how ****ing successful he's been. Bernard is one of the few guys who really NEVER got beat up. Even the first Jones fight, it was a slow and dull affair with a lot of feinting and deliberate short punches. I usually enjoy a good tactical chess match, but this wasn't one of those by any means. Jones won decisively, as did Dawson more recently, but those were the two clearest losses Bernard suffered (at least in my mind), and he STILL made a great account of himself. It would be sad to ever see Bernard actually get beat up. It almost seemed as if that would happen in the first Pascal fight, but Bernard never strayed from the game plan and remained determined. Hopkins truly is a special fighter, and I think he will get more credit and appreciation from future boxing enthusiasts than his contemporaries. :smoke
HIs style is boring, dirty yet very effective. You can't beat him up because his timing is better than anyone in the business. YOu open up to hit him you are going to catch a straight right perfectly timed. You get inside and try to make it a fight and he holds you. So he keeps you at his distance and his pace therefore he is always in a fight and never takes a beating. Only Floyd makes guys fight his style like he does and Nard is better than Floyd at doing that.
Agreed with all of what you said, except I honestly do not find Hopkins' style boring. He's always game and always determined, even when things aren't going his way.
