Burns V Khan @ 140

These sort of arguments is the reason why I don't count any of the alphabet holders as world champions, its so much easier.

 

Khan would beat Burns in my opinion. He has far better wins on his record, he's training with Hunter now and that can only improve him defensively, he's been at LWW longer and is bigger than Burns physically although perhaps not by much it would be a factor.

He is definitely quicker too, Burns is pretty quick but he is not going to get faster moving up a weight and Khan's hand speed, despite all his faults, is impressive. Khans wins over Mallinaggi, Kotelnik, Judah, and Maidana are far superior to Burns wins over Martinez, Katsidis, and Moses and although it would be a very competitive fight I think Khan has too much for him overall.

 

to be fair,as much as i like burns,khan has beat the better(much)pedigree of fighter,until burns proves he is up there by fighting someone in the top tier lightweights,im going with khan .

This isnt even debatable, no matter how much you dislike Khan and like Burns. Khan wins pretty much all day. Great style match up. He'd have better or equal reach, quicker hands, better jab, more power and Burns likely wouldnt have the power to dissuade him. It would be a combination of the Malignaggi and Kotelnik fights (Burns would be punching more than Kotelnik, but likely able to not get as beat up as Malignaggi)

It is very, very simple. Let me explain it for you again. Nate Campbell became the unified WBA/IBF/WBO champion when he defeated Juan Diaz in March 2008.

Moses won the regular strap when he travelled to Japan and defeated Kobori in January 2009.

Campbell relinquished all of all his lightweight titles the following month when he failed to make weight for his scheduled defence against Funeka. Instead of upgrading Moses to full champion status, the WBA (along with the WBO) decided to award their vacant title(s) to the Diaz/JMM winner later that very same month.

JMM won both titles that night (February 2009), and Moses was still the regular champ.

Moses lost his regular strap (following one successful defence( in May 2010, whilst JMM continued to defend his WBA/WBO titles until November 2010 - (in fact he was only stripped of his titles in January last year).

Remember when Burns beat Katsidis he was only an 'interim' champion. Because JMM was the real champ. The same applies to Moses.

That's pure speculation, Maidana hits harder than any of those you mentioned and he couldn't KO Khan. As for Burns beating them all, I don't see it myself, perhaps you're right but the fact is he hasn't beaten them or even fought at the level that Khan has so at this moment in time you have to favour Khan based on resume and evidence.

One thing that baffles me, and I hate to keep wanking on about this tbh, but if as Billy has said in this thread, that Ricky beats Khan and is faster, then why isn't that fight being made? That is a guaranteed block buster here and would be of interest in the states too. If Burns can do Khan so handily then why isn't he taking that scalp and earning a **** ton of money whilst improving his status as a force in boxing if everyone is so convinced?!

I don't think that Khan has the better jab, or rather, he doesn't use his good jab.

He can't stop himself bumrushing in throwing flurries of straight lefts and rights.

Burns isn't and never will be a puncher, but I think his jab is an excellent weapon and he has a bit of meat in his left hook - especially to the body.

You don't need to be Tommy Hearns to have Amir doing the dance.
