Dempsey jumps on him quick for the ko as does prime Tyson.
Foreman shoves him all round the ring before ending it in 3 rounds.
Liston just too good all round for Joe
Ali bounces him round at his leisure
Motivated Lennox ends it in 3-4 rounds.

Now all that may seem a bit harsh but all i ever see on here is people telling me how Louis would catch up to opponents eventually all the while seemingly ignoring what he is being hit with in the meantime.

    Thoughts ?

Definitely wouldn't described him as top 5. Top 2, is how I would describe him.

Dempsey refused to enter the ring with opponents of color after John Lester Johnson gave him a proper hiding.

Nice join date. It makes me suspicious you're not just a ****-stirring mong. Good luck with that.

:deal Arguably the greatest offensive force of the sport's history.

i'm seriously considering louis is my p4p list based on footage i've seen lately. he put his punches together better than probably anyone in history. he wasn't NEARLY as chinny as some people say. and his jab was a great defensive too: people stopped throwing punches (ie: max baer) once he started ramming that down their throat.

h2h he's extremely hard to overrate. foolish thread

Louis is a bit small and fragile to be at the absolute top of hte heavies head to head imo.

If he been 215-220 with his style-tyson sized-i'd say he would be a good bet for it though.

10-30lbs differences in weight might not consistently be a big deal when a great fighter takes on a good or average one, but when comparing the elite of the division i think it's a serious factor that can tip the scales and isn't often considered enough at heavy.

    Thanks for the warm welcome....

Contrary to what you may think, this is a serious thread.

Joe Louis did have one of the greatest offensive arsenals and i won't deny that but the man could be hit and put down by leeser fighters than those i have listed and if Dempsey, Tyson or Foreman hurt him early then i don't see him surviving.

Liston i see slowly breaking him down and Ali stays on the outside for a decision or possibly late stoppage.

I made a thread like this once, I couldn't see why he was rated so highly! But the more I'm seen of him the more I rate him, I think I'd only favour a few fighters over him, H2H top 5 definitely for me, could see how he is rated higher by some.

Taller than Tyson, with considerably more range, I'd say these are as important as the 15lbs you outline.

Louis consistently blasted the absolute crap out of the bigger fighters he faced in some of his best performances. Could he lose to one or two of the behemoths? Yeah, but he just might kick the **** out of everyone else, making him round-robin style #1 regardless.

Yeah. I don't like him against Lewis most of the time because of this, for instance.

Also other than Tyson, I wouldn't favour any fighter who would be coming forward over Louis, he'd eat them up imo. You don't walk into one of the greatest offenses in heavyweight history and survive.

I know his height is solid for a heavy-ideal even-but i'd just prefer he were more robust considering how important not getting backed up or manhandled would be to his style against most other great heavies.

He's not exactly someone who fights tall or uses his reach to dictate range with that jab in the manner Holmes\Ali did.Baer fight aside it was more often a range-finding punch for his combinations.

One of the best of the great heavies technically, but one of the least impressive physically imo.It always leaves me in two minds where he'll rate h2h, i have enough doubt not to put him at the very top alongside Botha.

I love Louis' jab. And he never seemed outmuscled even by the behemoths.
