Besides Ali, Tyson, Floyd, Jack Johnson, Pacquiao, who else transcended the sport?

Pac is in dozens of commercials. He's a political icon, and he's becoming something of an evangelist.

And tbf, he's probably overall, got the largest fanbase of any modern fighter. :deal

Joe Louis transcended the sport massively in the USA. Also, the Klitschko brothers made a large contribution to the sport transcending in Europe.

    2) Jack Johnson

    3) Louis

floyd is just good for his sport. He hasnt transcended ****.

nobody follows him outside the country and if they did its because he was supposed to fight Pac.

Pac is huge in Asia and in catholic countries in south america.

Showed Floyds picture to some of the girls in the office. Not one of them knew who he was. He is big to boxing fans but that is about it

Indeed. Mayweather's impact and renown are within the boundaries you'd expect from an established boxing superstar. The consensus p4p best fighter in the sport is often world famous, draws big crowds and attracts plenty of mainstream attention.

Lance Armstrong transcends cycling; David Beckham transcends football. Their fame (or infamy) goes way beyond their achievements in their chosen field.

There are plenty of boxers who fulfil that criteria (Schemling is another one who hasn't been mentioned), but when people say someone transcends boxing because lots of people watch them fight, I don't think they quite grasp what the word actually means.

Uh,.that's not it. In the 20's Dempsay was bigger than babe ruth, and he fought in stadiums specifically constructed for his fights, which had over 100K. How's that no transending the sport?

Had a very well known restaurant in NYC.

SRL is on dance shows for FSakes, that's also transending the sport.

Oscar, sure he was like Pacquio is today but in the '90's. And Duran, well he's got a movie coming out about him this year, so we'll see where that goes.

Foreman, yup, he's a household name and a multimillionaire.

Wasn't around when Marciano was at his peak, but I'm sure a white heavyweight champion in the 50's would have been held in pretty high regard.

Louis has got to be the single most transcending figure...

I'm 100% certain most of you have no idea what the definition of transcend is.
