How many movers did he fight? Even Conn often stood there and traded with him. If Conn had a punch, like even a Schmeling level punch, he would have knocked Louis out in the 11th.
Both these guys lost to opponents who would have been cruiserweights or light heavyweights in Joe Louis's era. Joe Louis faced dirty tactics and injuries, in some of his title fights. He usualy didn't need an excuse, because he found a way to win the fight in question. If your best argument against Louis, is the fact that he lost to Schmeling in his second year as a pro, then you are stuffed. How many heavyweights have not lost to somebody worse, closer to their peak?
That's baloney. They would have been fairly typical Louis opponents, not smaller than usual. Holyfield in particular has heavyweight dimensions in terms of height and reach. Just compare Holyfield's roided up physique at 215 vs Tyson to any version of Schmeling. You think it doesn't make a difference?
Haha, yeah those "ifs" are always pretty... stupid. If Lewis had the handspeed of corrie sanders. If Wlad had the chin of his brother. If Malignaggi had hands like Thomas Hearns If Duran his belly didn't hurt If Ali hit Foreman If Foreman had stamina like Holyfield Ad infinitum.
No, because I can name people who can move as well or better than Conn, wouldn't take anywhere near as many punches from Louis, and who hit harder than Conn. Some of them are heavyweights and some are not.
Byrd would be trouble for almost every hw ever as most never fought more than 2 southpaws (In the past especially) Ali in his amateur years had 5 losses to southpaws and Mildenberger gave him enough trouble. Only Wlad, Vitali, and Holyfield really got that southpaw experience. Wlad facing around 8, Vitali and Holyfield 4. Maybe some more, but they're the only hw ATGs that got that southpaw resume. (Vitali isn't a HW atg though, atleast not top 15/20)
Rusak to be clear, are you saying there are tons of 200+ lb boxers who move better than a light heavyweight with superb footwork.
