Can a modern fighter surpass Greb?

Take a 20yr old, and put him in today's scene.

What would he have to do?

 

Something dramatic. One up Henry Armstrong (hold the Ring belts from feather to middle simultaneously), or Fitz (become legit world champion from middle on up), or just kick everyones ass for like 15 years. If someone could do what Chavez did only beat that version of Whitaker and make it to 100-0 he's the man. Or won titles in 10 out 12 weight classes.

 

Beat every single ranked contender across about 5 or 6 divisions, hope that there are a dozen or so ATG's in the mix there. Try really, really hard not to lose, ever.

It's possible, at least, if not at all probable.

 

Sounds like Mayweather.

 

i think it's possible but very hard. you're looking at quality versus quantity cause his record will never be matched.

so you need a fighter in a STACKED division (let's say a peak welter/middle era) who could dominate 147, unify and collect HOF level scalps before moving up to middleweight at age 26, unify the belts, collect several HOF level scalps and rule both his era and the next generation over a period of 5-10 years.

He would have to be ranked number 1 pound for pound for the majority of his run. along the way, he would have to beat top ranked light heavies and heavies while never leaving his home division. let`s say he beats the next great heavyweight champ while weighing no more than 165...

That man MIGHT be ranked higher than greb

 

If he had done the bit about 'every ranked contender' and a 'dozen or so ATG's' whle remaining unbeaten across 5 divisions, then yeah, Floyd would be right there with Greb.

 

Really? No one would rate someone who pulled an Armstrong plus above Greb?

 

i like it but it would depend on the opposition. chavez for instance lost to almost every elite, hall of famer level fighter he fought. was he past his best for most of them...absolutely. but to pass greb, i see the armstrong scenario PLUS beating a significant number of elite opponents.

 

You do that over that many divisions its bound to include several elite fighters. Find me one 5 year period where beating the top contenders over those weight classes would not include some greats.
