Do you really believe that Arum would have prevented that fight from happening? lets be real with it, that fight as you said was the richest or one of the richest fights in history, No way Arum would have passed that fight up.

Floyd simply would have had to stick it out with Top Rank meaning he likely wouldnt be able to cherry pick his way through the higher weight classes, and Floyd didnt like that Idea.

I am sure he would have in the end its all about Money and Arum is about that money its no secret.
Point I am making is simple Floyd wanted out of his contract with Top Rank so that he did not have to deal with any of the threats moving up that Top Rank had in house.

his record since leaving proves this..... whos he fighting in May?:think thats all you need to ****ing know

I just want you to know you are arguing against direct words from Bob Arum.

You say: "He would have done it in the end." You are essentially implying you know more about what Bob Arum's actions would have been than Bob Arum himself.

Well I suggest you read the transcript from Bob. He was very clear that the DLH fight was "not in the cards" and "sometimes you got to know when to hold'em and when to fold'em."

This "ducking Margarito" nonsense is just that, nonsense. Anybody who actually followed boxing back then and knows the facts would not say such a ridiculous thing.

And just FYI -- Arum was trying to only pay Mayweather 7 million each for Cotto and Hatton in the deal that included 8 million for Margarito. Can you say, rip off artist? And people actually question Mayweather's move to leave Top Rank? Please... How much did Mayweather make against Hatton and Cotto? I can assure you it was far more than 6 million.

Based on those numbers, I'd say your point about Mayweather "not wanting to deal with the threats" as complete and utter bull****. He fought 3 of the 4 guys on the list he presented to Bob Arum, and made far more than $7 million each for Cotto and Hatton. Arum is the guy who said "no deal," not Mayweather. Mayweather asked for 8 million for Margarito, 10 million each for Cotto and Hatton, and 20 million for Oscar.

Mayweather wanted out of his contract for one reason and one reason only: Money. Anybody who brings up "ducking the Top Rank threats" is full of ****.

Arum obviously didn't think Mayweather vs Hoya would sell at 2.4mil. And never forsaw Mayweather becoming the draw he became. He stated himself that between what Mayweather was demanding and what Hoya would demand to make that fight it would be worth HIS time because he wouldn't make any money off it personally.

If Mayweather stayed under Arum and felt the need to cherry pick, Arum would have been more then happy to oblidge him. He is his promoter after all. Arum would just screw over Cotto the way he did for Pac etc..

After Manny Pacquiao made easy work of Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito, the howls of “Floyd ducked both of these fighters” reemerged. Many of these claims have been opinionated and have not yet seen proof of these allegations. I did write an article stating that Mayweather side stepping Margarito was a good move. And financially it was back then. But upon my return to the article, I found facts that will support this article. Now, I know there will still be many who will contest these facts and continue with their barrage of name calling. But it’s not my job to control opinions; just give the facts and let the readers decide. But I want you to pay close attention to the quotes and who’s saying what.

After Mayweather defeated Zab Judah, he was offered 8 million to fight Antonio Margarito on August 12th 2006. Leonard Ellerbe had this to say after the Judah fight.
Floyd is not 100 percent healthy,” Ellerbe said. “He has a bruised right hand. His hand is not broken. It’s bruised, but it’s a bad bruise. He wants to go into any fight 100 percent healthy. If Antonio Margarito happens to be the best available option when he is healthy, so be it”.
“We are not turning down Margarito. I want to make that crystal clear. When and if he is the best available option for Floyd’s next fight, that’s the direction he will move in.” If you noticed, that was Ellerbe speaking. Not Floyd. Let’s move on.

Bob Arum, Mayweather’s promoter at the time said that Mayweather preferred to await the outcome of the May 6 Oscar De La Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga fight instead of committing to Margarito because he would prefer to fight De La Hoya.

Arum stated that Mayweather would have fought Margarito for the 8 million, but he wanted a guaranteed 10 million to fight Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton. Arum only guaranteed him 7 million. And for those who don’t know Cotto and Hatton were at the Mayweather-Gatti fight and Cotto was ranked number 5 by the ring at the time (Proof: Listen to the commentary Jim Lampley at the end of round 5) . Cotto had just moved up to the 140 pound weight class and he didn’t make an offer to fight Mayweather after the Gatti fight.

Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn’t interested in participating in. “That’s not in the cards,” Arum said. “He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It’s not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em. We’ll talk about things down the road.” Notice this part Arum was talking.

Margarito is a **** fighter. End thread. Floyd went up to the actual 154 pound limit and beat Oscar who was around 165 on fight night as well. End thread. No one cares that a guy on steroids beat up on a punching bag who shouldve retired after the Shane fight.

Bottom line if Arum accepts the contract then Mayweather stays with TR and is guranteed fights by Arum to fight Margarito, Cotto, Hatton, and Hoya. Arum turned down the contract for lower gurantees. Looking back Mayweather was right to ask for what he did and Arum was wrong for turning it down for the low ball offer. Arum was in the wrong.
