    Alright capardres;

Hope you are good. I have become a bit of an international boxing ****** due to all the sanctioning bodies and various fights not happening. I was very pleased for my former opponent Ricky Burns and Billy Nelson that a fight that was being heavily called for got made (with Vasquez).

However I have to admit I know nothing of Vasquez - I've not even seen him fight. I've since gone through his record and obviously there is Alvarez on there plus wins over a couple of people with impressive records (numbers wise) however the biggest name on there is Prescott and he recorded a split decision win over him?...

Now I'm not criticising him as I don't know anything about the guy and I will watch him when I get a minute - but what makes Vasquez such a fascinating test for Burns?

I'm in no way slating him but I just don't see anything on there that makes me think this isn't an entirely winnable fight for burns, nor can I see any really outstanding names or results on his record.

Please educate me. And also best of luck to billy and Ricky.

  2. some one will give you a detailed answer , but for me this dude is a tougher fight than broner

he isn't your typical Mexican fighter...balls to the wall attitude.

he is very technical, circles alot, tries to work the angles and the jab.

not an easy fight for Burns but very doable imo.

Vazquez is also a genuine lightweight and has a 2" reach advantage over Burns I think.

    Consummate technician.

He's labeled boring, although it's usually only because people have a preconceived expectation of how Mexicans ought to fight.

Ironically, he is managed by Antonio Margarito who epitomizes the very cliched style Vasquez eschews.

I seem to remember he beat Prescott convincingly and the SD was bull****.

It's hard to fathom just how good Vasquez is, mainly due to his competition being nothing to write home about, he may shine when facing better opposition, he has a bunch of solid wins.

He's a good fighter no doubt, does the basics well.

    :good

Prescott also received generous scoring against Richard Abril (who isn't half as good as Vasquez, and is twice as boring/shitty to watch)

Nightmare style that is almost impossible to look good against, he beat Prescott just as convincingly as Mitchell did, before Mitchell did

I've always rated him higher than Demarco personally, and he's been the solid number one guy in the division for quite a while in my mind

Skillspaybills gives a very in-depth post about his strengths and weaknesses in the break down thread

 don't be ridiculous. Does Vasquez have KTFO power? No he doesn't. He's not special, beat nobody and is boring as ****. But he does have the IBF belt therefore its a fight that should be and rightfully has been made.

I hope Burns puts a clinic on him to send a message to America that he's serious

I would be targeting the body if I were Ricky. Vasquez's ribs must still be sore after the battering alvarez put on them :yep

I expect it to be a close fight. I favour Burns, because I think he'll get the nod unless it's wide, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people are crying "robbery" when the decision is announced. Vazquez is not a flashy, attractive fighter and with the home backing, I can see Burns being given a lot of the close rounds in the fight.

For me, Vazquez is the better fighter but I think it'll be a close bout and I can see Burns being given the nod...I think that's all options covered

Ricky Burns has been undermined in quite a few of previous fights. No-one expected him to become a world champion when he beat Martinez, to defeat Katsidis, Mitchell and I'm sure he will have doubters in his next fight against Vasquez.

But i for think Ricky will stop this guy to be honest. Burns deserves all the plaudits of whats happened in the last year and half of his career becoming an underdog. We all expected ****** not to make this match and have a lesser opponent. Burns will be unified champion if he manages to win so how can people critisize the actually fight. This would put Burns in a much better position if the Broner match is called.

Also If I was Burns I would like to get the winner of Abril and Bogere in the WBA World Championship fight on 2nd March. As he is dual champion (IF) he would have the momentum to bring them in for a summer clash and he would be the man to beat not Broner.
