Not forgetting the most important part... Genuine punch or not there was no way Liston was going to win that fight regardless of what shape he was in or how determined. I rate Liston very highly h2h but at that stage of their careers Ali was just too much for him to handle.
I've yet to see any conclusive proof it's a dive. Once you get past the idea of Liston being a monster it ain't too hard to envision.
Liston's on the canvas rolling around and saying,"Can I get up now?"..I've seen better acting in the WWF-WWE...TOTAL FRAUD...
Agreed. Liston knew he had no real chance of winning that fight. He got tagged and got scared. He gave up mentally.
Ali had done a fair bit of canvas time leading up to the fight and Liston was more than capable of taking punishment to win a fight, see the Williams fight. Liston was scared most likely by the consequences of him owing unresolved debts to people that he shouldn't be mixed up with.
There is a slow motion video of the Ali Liston knockdown. When Ali lands the punch you can see the shock go through Listons body.
yeah posters forget about the slow motion film of ali's punch and the effect it had. it was a good timed shot that liston didn't see.
