Yes i also felt Roy clearly beat Tarver the first time . I dont remember how i scored the fight exactly , But i remember me saying that Tarver badly needed a Knockout going into the final 2 rounds . No controversy in that fight .
That fight was so far from controversial it's crazy to see people still say tarver won. There's like a 4 round stretch where tarver does absolutely nothing. Like he threw 25 power through rounds 3-6 Jones teed off on tarvers body. Even when tarver was teeing off on Jones it was mostly all gloves.
History will be kind to him ,that accomplishment puts him head and shoulders over his closets rivals .
It was a close fight that Jones clearly won. If Roy was smart he would've forced Tarver to fight at a catchweight of 185lbs., why he didn't do that, when he had all the cards, is baffling to me.
Because he wanted to fight at light heavy, for the light heavyweight title. He wasn't fighting Tarver for the name or anything.
Jones showed a lot of heart in that fight. He was exhausted by the 5th round, completely uncharacteristic, and went the distance on fumes. Took some serious shots too.
Tarver is a G. I picked him to win all 3 fights. I felt he brought something to the table. That, and Roy slipping. Roy could have retired a trill OG if he handpicked a few HW bouts and defended his title. Stupid move.
I still think Jones could have won the 3rd Tarver fight he was just too gun shy. I think in like the 6th round he had Tarver hurt with a left uppercut combo then just show boated instead of attack.
Poll added.. I was told i am the minority in thinking Jones won the fight. Do you feel the right man got the decision?
