Mayweather's Ability to Cut Off the Ring

As good of an anayless of Mayweather that anyone has written.

 

Floyd did a good job of walking down Corrales at points, especially when he had him hurt; and was going forward against Gatti throughout the fifth and sixth rounds. Judah's the best example of him applying educated pressure, but he's fought well on the front foot in other fights.

 

floyd did come at ortiz, but ortiz should have held his ground he would have had the advantage if he did, but he decided to back off, when he did this floyd didnt really close him down, he let ortiz keep moving, floyd kept picking him off

 

How would he have held the advantage? he was hardly successful in touching Floyd...whilst Floyd was very successful in touching him.

 

he's stronger and he's more powerful, better than what he did, by fighting off the back foot, it allowed floyd to make it an outside fight, ortiz cant jab so he had no chance there, if he held his ground, he would have backed off floyd, no way would floyd stand his ground against ortiz if ortiz was holding his ground, he could have backed floyd to the ropes like he did in some rounds, he had more success their

 

Yes he is those things but he wasn't able to hit Floyd effectively even when Floyd stood infront of him.....Floyd is never going to fight toe to toe (certainly not for long periods) what Ortiz needed to do is come forward (and therefore use his advantages - strength, size and weight) but Floyd fights nicely going backwards and we saw even backed against the ropes Ortiz still hardly landed.

To be honest Ortiz didn't have the mental strength or IQ to apply the necessary pressure (and in turn take the beating he would have needed) to beat Floyd whatever he did to be honest.

Wherever that fight took place - inside, outside, going forward, going backwards he was going to lose.

 

That's true, but it was smart anticipating Ortiz's inability to fight off the back foot. But I agree and that's why before, I mentioned that there's a difference between cutting off a ring and simply coming forward. He cornered Judah, but he never cornered Mosley and never cornered Ortiz.

 

very true, but would have been more competitive if he held his ground and decided to push forward and apply pressure.
