The two lumber around and look to set up their right hand. Ferrante gets his off and drops Akberbayev, who quickly tries to claim it was a push! The ref isn't buying it. Akberbayev answers back with his own big right, on the button. Down goes Ferrante!!

Round 2

Akberbayev is working in the right hand and catching Ferrante on the jaw. Ferrante keeps his arms up and counters over Akberbayev's low left hand, clipping him back with equal force. BIG right by Akberbayev, stunning Ferrante. Another. Akberbayev has the more porous defense but seems to be loading up more and simply bursting through Ferrante's guard. Ferrante doesn't take a backward step, though, fighting through Akberbayev's shots while winging his own.

Round 3

Ferrante jumps on Akberbayev and catches him cold, blasting him into his corner. Ferrante mostly gets blocked until winding down. Ferrante bows repeatedly to his right, jerking his upper body up and down and using lots of energy on the outside. Ferrante waits for him. Big right hand leads by Akberbayev, now driving Ferrante back. Headlock by Ferrante. Body shots by Akberbayev. Jabs by Akberbayev coming forward. Overhand right by Akberbayev, ducked as Ferrante encircles him in his arms. Double jab by Ferrante, scoring as Akberbayev pulls back. Big lead right by Akberbayev. Shovels to the gut by Akberbayev. Ferrante is pushed back to the ropes and tagged while trying to hold. Ferrante pins his wrists together in front of his eyes as Akberbayev unloads a big combination. The moment he's done, Ferrante sneaks in a flush right hand to the face but Akberbayev shakes his head to dismiss it. Double jab by Akberbayev chasing Ferrante into a corner, missing as Ferrante turns his chin, and a big clubbing right to cap it off.

Round 4

Akberbayev is standing in front of Ferrante and getting sniped by the 1-2. Akberbayev eats a jab while trying to bob and Ferrante sticks his tongue out at him. Ferrante has a cut above his left eye. Chopping right by Akberbayev. Clinch. The ref splits them. Akberbayev is targeting the body, missing jabs and straight rights from outside. Akberbayev slaps up top with a right, missing. Another, caught on the arms. Ferrante is laughing in his face, showing bravado, but not throwing back. "He fights more like a Toughman than a boxer", says Sheridan. Well put. Ferrante seems to think he can hemorrhage rounds and knock Akberbayev out at some point, letting himself be outworked.

Round 5

Akberbayev is jabbing in and gets caught up on the shoulder of Ferrante, who tries to lift him up for a slam before the ref intercepts. Ferrante scores a right hand to back Akberbayev out. Sloppy windmills by Akberbayev. Ferrante backs into a corner and pops the jab as Akberbayev comes on. Ferrante rolls back from an Akberbayev right hand. The next one lands flush. Ferrante works the stiff jab sitting back waiting for Akberbayev. Ferrante angles off the ropes while moving away from Akberbayev's flurry. Ferrante drills him with a hard right hand. Akberbayev is applying mostly ineffective aggression. Chopping shots to the back and arms by Akberbayev as Ferrante rolls back with his arms hanging loose. Ferrante lands a jab and fixes his trunks before getting his arms up to block and hold.
