The butt was dubious. His head traveled some distance, following through after the missed shot. That said, I think it was just clumsy desperation from Salido.

I don't think Salido was looking for an 'out' but I don't think there is a case to suggest the bout was beginning to go Salido's way, either. He was working harder but not really being any more effective with his step up in workrate. If anything, it all the more demonstrated Salido's graceless ineptitude, in the face of a superior technician like Mikey Garcia.

    It looked accidental to me.

salido was finally having some success so quitting at that point doesn't make sense. Plus he's likely to take a rematch which should put any quit rumours to bed.

If you knock a guy down after 4 times and you still haven't KO him then the fight should have continue and it started to seem like Garcia was slowing down that's why we have a 12 round schedule fight. Todays boxing.

Makes perfect sense, got an oppurtunity to win the fight when he knew he had a comfortable lead and took the easy road out. Salido was coming on I'd love to have seen how the later round would have ended.

How did he take the easy way out by accidentally headbutting an opponent when behind on cards? It guaranteed he would lose in a fight he was finally starting to settle into.

It looked like it could have been one of those "I'm going to charge in without much concern" headbutts, but not being able to know what he really thought at the time, you can't judge him.

    Agreed.

it was a bs stoppage, how many time have we seen fighters break their nose and continue fighting? this happens no less than once a month in high level pro broxing, just ridiculous. still garcia was awesome in there but what a **** way to end it.

it's half intentional to me. or 60% intentional.
salio just did it in a neat way that we cannot say for sure.
he swing, then chin down, never hold back, letting his head go. bang!!
    nice job, salido.
