GGG fans, tell me whats supposed to impress me about Golovkin?

ggg is a good fighter but he has defensive liabilities. if rosado can hit him with some success, a better fighter will fug him up bad

 

He had far to short a peak, and lost his defining fight.


Do you know how he's doing these days? Last I saw was HBO Legendary Nights, and a short interview when he bought out a book...

 

No idea but I hope he's made a lot of money off it.

Matching him with Norris was an awful idea.

Who was dropped numerous times against Julio Cesar Vasquez, a beast of a light middle that Pernell Whitaker went up and dethroned. :deal Drew considers it arguably as impressive as his performance against Chavez given all the circumstances and I don't necessarily disagree.

 

Matching him with Espana was an equally bad idea. He was a monster & a terrible match up for Meldrick.

 

He is Russian. He is soft spoken, yet comfortably confident. He knocks out, beats up, and/or hurts anything he touches. And he is here to clean houses and shut all of you know it alls up.

 

Prime AA at 160 would have stopped this guy, because his defense is not good enough and he can't avoid being hit. He has yet to prove that he is as good as his fans want him to be...

He's good for the sport, love to watch the guy, he's extremely flawed defensively though and I very much doubt he lasts the distance vs Martinez, he's proly the #2 guy though.....I'd like to see him vs Gaele to prove who's #2, that one's close to 50-50. His timing, the way he cuts off the ring, the way he makes his opponents use up energy and his obvious power are great though.

And please people stop bringing am fights into the discussion we're talking pros here.

 

So many folks knock Golovkin for his lack of head movement, but I don't think they understand Golovkin's basic approach. Unless you've actually boxed, (and even then) you may not be aware of certain basic principles, so in the interest of educating you guys, here's something I've already posted on another thread:

Golovkin did NOT look that bad against Rosado. People don't understand his fighting style. (I do, as I was trained in a very similar style years ago.)

He doesn't move his head much because he's not getting hurt with those shots. Letting weak shots hit you lets you keep focus on your opponent, and capitalize on the tiniest little mistake he makes. That's exactly what makes Golovkin so dangerous.

Knowing when to avoid / block shots, and when not to, is one of the hardest things to learn. Most top trainers are very aware of this subject.

When Golovkin finally faces a fast & powerful opponent, I guarantee you he will start moving his head more. (If he had no head movement, he would have never amassed such an amazing amateur record.) He won't turn into Floyd, but he also won't get hit as much.

I'd be very interested to hear what some other actual former boxers (or trainers, or serious students of the art) think of this analysis.

Ams dont mean ****. Most ams I've seen are very flawed technically and alot lack head movement see Gamboa who has a propensity for pulling straight back with his hands down.

 

Dirrell? LOL is that guy even still an active boxer?

think Graziano, Frazier, an old Ali, Hagler, Nigel Benn, Lamotta (of course) ... the list is long. Actually, it would be very interesting to compile an actual list of good fighters who conserved energy and took a few shots, in order to stay focused & destroy their opponents, when that opponent wasn't extremely dangerous.


- And the Ams are extremely relevant to my point: Because scoring is weighed heavily in favor of head shots even if they don't have power, you need to have very good defensive head movement to do well.
