I watched his 2007 run today...

Forgot how much fun it was watching him rise from a relative unhyped unknown to contender to champion. Brutalized Zertuche, Miranda, and Taylor to take the crown.

Sad how quickly he fizzled out and lost the plot :-(

    I hear ya.

That '07 run was straight up magic. One of the best times I've ever had as a fan of any sport.

'07 was one hell of a year for boxing anyways......:deal
    Pavlik vs Zertuche
    Pavlik vs Miranda
    Pavlik vs Taylor
    Mayweather vs Oscar
    Mayweather vs Hatton
    Judah vs Cotto in MSG
    Calzaghe vs Kessler (iirc)
    Izzy vs Rafa
    Hatton vs Castillo
    Peter vs Toney
and lots more I can't think of right now :yep

  5. Pavlik was overrated. GGG by doctor stoppage.

Running into Bernard Hopkins was something that really messed up his psyche and career in general.

Zuniga Zertuche Mckart Miranda and Taylor had never been stopped. You're right it all ended too quick. Hopefully history is kinder to him than the present though he's brought a lot on himself

Was underrated at one point noob. Manny Steward was literally laughing at him prior to the Taylor fight.

He is at a tough age to not be around his family. His kids are still pretty young. I wondered about that and just saw a piece on yahoo sports where he says that directly. If he still trained in Ytown it MIGHT be a different story. Don't know but that played a big role I think.

Was Kelly considered prime when Hopkins thrashed him? Just wondering.

    Yes.

There was certainly no reason in the world to think other wise. He'd just come off the 2 Taylor fights and had fought Gary Lockett.

Then came the decision to climb two divisions and fight Hopkins :!:

Aww man. Well, now that Kelly has officially retired, you should treat yourself. It really was one of Hopkins best performances in the ring.
