Rumour: Amateur boxing losing headgear??

Not sure on the following, so do correct me if I'm wrong:

At this stage, as far as I know, this won't affect lads boxing on normal ABA club shows and championships.

This will have to pass a vote by the members first, probably at the AGM (annual general meeting).

It looks as though head guards will be banned for elite internationals through BABA - not the ABA.

Anyone have any further information?

 

Is the score ruling system going to change as well? I didn't have my amateur bout yet, but it does really seem stupid to judge fights with the amateur score ruling system.

 

Yeap its true!I have a friend who is a amateur boxing judge and soon headgear is bye bye.

 

Why? I'm actually shocked they'd do it...boxing is always under fire...losing the headgear would just add more fuel.

 

Theres no Proof it makes it safer, more Proof it doesnt.

 

Nonsense, there are plenty of scientific studies showing it decreases force transmitted to the head, I don't know of one saying otherwise. You could argue that there's a larger surface area or that it's harder to see punches but to say that they don't absorb some force and prevent cuts is 100% untrue.

Reason they were brought in in the 80s, was [in Britain] to get as far away from Pro Boxing as possible. plus to stop the Ban Boxing Brigade, from putting the 2 Sports together, Amateurs were trying to make there Sport safer. But it appears it hasnt, Headguards lessen impact, and the likelihood of cuts, but not damage to the Brain. They assumed in the 60s looking at Dead, old Boxers that the problem with Brain Damage was the widening of the 2 sides of the Brain, Further Tests showed it happened naturally with Age, so 2 Nuero surgeons I know explained to me. Wearing Headguards makes the Torque longer and lessons awareness, plus you can get Hit more before a K/O. Theres more damage done in Gyms, wearing 16 oz Gloves and Headguards, than in Fights. This they now realise, thats why they are doing away with them.

 

Ahh, I've never knew this until now. I just thought we wore headgear in order to prevent from getting cuts and headbutting.

 

Do you have anything to back this up? Damage is caused by linear and angular velocity/forces. Boxing headgear reduces this, especially linear.

 

thing i always hated about headgear as a boxer was the fans..they would assume that because you have it the punches dont hurt, or hurt very little...i remember some karate ****** saying that....anyhow.
