Should certain substances be allowed to help boxers CUT weight in Boxing?

Erik Morales leading to his second fight with Manny Pacquiao for example, had to cut weight for the fight, and he felt as though he was already losing going into the fight because of this.

The benefits it could provide for the sport are that it will allow for more competitive contests and reasons along these lines. This'll be great for boxing, boxing gets more recognition, more cash in everybody's wallets, happy days.
The substances they'd take to cut weight doesn't exactly provide the unfair advantage of steroids.

I'm not saying I support it haha, but I'm just raising the argument.

It only means the richest boxers get even a bigger advantage.

Same day weight in, no catchweights allowed anymore in titlefights.
    Can't make the weight?
    Go to a bigger division.

No boxing should have the same rules for doping as the Olympics and should also go back to same day weigh-ins

I'm not an expert but it sounds, to me, an absolutely hideous idea.

I don't see how this would help.
Fighters would just be even more dangerously weight-drained surely.
Surely it would just be a case of, "I need to take diuretics to get even within 5 pounds of that weight, that's why I sucked at the weight"

No, I think I'd prefer to see them go back to the days of same-day weigh-ins and ringside weigh-ins.
I believe fighters should be disciplined and cut weight, as they always have, but I don't want to see them killing themselves. I think good trainers and doctors should be in charge and find the right balance.
I also don't want to see welterweights come into the ring 165 pounds any more, it's silly.

This is the worst thread ever.

How about 'should fighters keep trying to cut ludicrous amounts of weight'?

The answer is no and anyone that pushes it too far to try and win some useless trinket deserves to go in weak.

Morales was a beast at 122 for years so **** him. He also struggle to make 147 with months of notice and diuretics. Who gives two ****s for his excuses (and I love the guy)?

Also, diuretics are used to flush steroids out of the system/mask them as well.

This is truly an abysmal idea.

You mean diuretics? Plenty of boxers already use them (on the sly). They leach the water out of your system, put massive strain on your kidneys and deplete your cranial fluid. They're very far from safe my man.

In fact the only reason they're used is to artificially make a contracted weight. Nothing competitive about them.

The long term effects would be disastrous.

True. They should only be permitted to make the weight by honest means.

I think they should bring back same day weigh ins.

Agreed. Let's see how long it is before Broner moves up to welter once he tries to even make 140 on the f'n day.

Goodbye straw weight division as well :hi:

allowed/unchecked drug use in sport inevitably leads to deaths, not worth it

No. Same day weigh ins, have everyone fight at their natural weight.

Also do weigh ins just before the fight as a point of reference.

Oh and no catch weight fights for established weight class titles, it's moronic.
