If Bob Arum retires from Boxing Promoting, is this good for Boxing?

And why?

It is argued that he's not good for boxing because he's the reason why fights like Mayweather-Pacquiao did not happen, and now Donaire-Mares is unlikely to happen.

However, he is embedded in Boxing history and is very shrewd at what he does. When it goes well, it goes VERY well where Bob's involved.

 

Too many potential awesome fights over the last ten years have not happened because of him.

I can't say I think much would change. Promoters are a dime a dozen, and they mostly act the same way.

Where do you think his fighters would go? Probably to Golden Boy, back to Don King who is an absolute cockroach, of to some other oaf like Gary Shaw. And then it would just be a par for the hole.

Magna got there first; assholes are a dime a dozen in boxing, the business is rife with them. There will always be another Bob Arum.

 

It's honestly a management and a legal problem right now. Promoters create back breaking contracts with unfair exits(Can you say illusory promise/sham consideration?), and bury or dodge liability from utterly fairly to keep their provisions.

Fighters sign because of nice bonuses and features that SOUND good but are unenforceable, and then get burnt(mostly). You live and you learn; I'll never sign another such deal in my lifetime.

As is often stated, boxing is the "Red Light" disrict of sport, can you imagine anyone more fitting to reside here than "Honest Bob"?

I personally hold him accountable for the Mayweather-Pac fight not happening, which was the biggest blow to boxing in a long time.

It now looks that he's holding up Donaire-Mares and Matthyse-Rios, which are 2 more big fights.

Arum is in his 80s and I wish he'd be like King has been the past 10 years and shoved out of the picture or retire.
