So, I made a thread just now about people not ranking Wlad as an ATG and one of the reasons for this being unavenged losses against poor opposition. That got me thinking....Vitali avenged two of Wlads losses for him pretty much, which both times put the matter of fighting the guy to bed. Wlad and Vitali are both very good fighters...but due to them essentially working and being viewed as a team instead of independently, they also have a list of opponents thats halved, for example I've heard a lot of people say 'The Klitschkos cleared out the division' etc, they have both benefited from having a brother in the division in more than just a support capacity So my question is, were Wlad to be on his own in boxing from day 1, with just Fritz, how do you see his career playing out? Lets assume his individual fights play out the same until Sanders, The Purrity loss, while an upset, didn't really affect anything to grand on a boxing scale Vitali isn't there, what happens? Does Wlad rematch Sanders? Does he lose again? At that stage in his career I'm not sure I could have seen him winning a rematch personally, what do the rest of you think? If he still got with Steward, how would he have fared in the years after? Does he take a loss or two against the extra competition he would have faced in Vitalis absence? How do you think his career goes without big bro, essentially 2 rematches against guys who beat him, and then an extended pool of competition
It's hard to say, Wlad has certainly improved and reached his prime in the last 5 years. Before that, he could well of lost a few fights. At this moment in time, Wlad is top dog and if Vitali wasn't around, Wlad would add the WBC strap to his collection.
These guys are highly interdependent. So, I think that both would have been affected by the absence of the other. Wlad might have been less effective, with a different path. Vitali might have been more effective, with no gap in his tenure.
Assuming that his older bro was not around and that he wouldn't feel like rematching Sanders or Purrity, he could have pulled a Lewis, avoided them along with southpaws and relinquished the belt when/if they were mandatories.
Very true. Wlad has developed a lot but the consequences of a quick rematch with Sanders could have been huge, it could have completely derailed his career.
This is what I tend to think Though I also think if he made it through it, he'd be viewed as a lot greater than he was now (assuming he developed similarly)

Vitali would still be champ without Wlad. Wlad would too but not for the same amount of time. Just being fair. But the biggest thing is Manny Steward. He changed Wlad's style.
