Doesn't Ward hold the WBC title? and the WBA?

He didn't defended in quite some time, WBC doesn't like to stay much in the same place as other titles. WBC is planing either to elevate Ward to emeritus status or strip him.

I guess Eddie has suggested it but realises its a long shot.

An article on the scene says it'll be split site PPV with Bute fighting in Canada or Romania.

According to Jean Bedard of InterBox, promoter for Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KOs), is planning to stage his boxer's next fight on May 25th, either in Quebec, Romania or England. Bedard reached an agreement with promoter Eddie Hearn to stage the fight on the same date as Carl Froch's super middleweight unification against Mikkel Kessler - and then have both fights aired on split-site pay-per-view in order to further build a potential rematch with Bute and Froch.

Bute would go up against the winner of Nikola Sjekloca (25-0, 7 KOs) and Sakio Bika (30-5-2, 21 KOs), which takes place on February 16th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The vacant WBC super middleweight title will be on the line in the Bute vs. Sjekloca/Bika clash in May.

"Andre Ward has to face the winner [of Sjekloca/Bika] in a maximum of 90 days after the fight, but he won't be available, so Lucian will fight against the winner for the regular title. Revenue sharing should be around 55-45 (for Bika or Sjekloca) instead of 85-15, since they will be meeting for the vacant belt. We agreed with Eddie Hearn that we would produce a big show on pay-per-view with those two fights. It will be show in order to build Bute-Froch," Bedard told QMI Agency.

I know the whole idea is to show Bute is back and a rematch has merit, but was there a time limit on the initial rematch agreement?

What I mean is,now that it's not happening in March, does Bute still have the right to demand a rematch or is it all down to Froch's discretion now?

    Indeed.:deal
Think it's worth remembering that we should get that for about £15 whereas that card would be $60 in the US.
I'd even throw in a nicker tip for best KO of the night.

Cant see it myself,he has had one fight since Froch predictably beat him. Bute was one of the daftest No.1 ratings I ever saw in boxing monthly. Good fighter no question but totally unproven against a come to win fighter at top level. Andrade was the closest he had come to that and it was near disaster.
Bute had potential but was in my opinion brought on too poorly and when the time came it showed. If he is put in against anyone half decent on this show for a world title fight he will lose. His people know this, and that is why he will fight a journeyman in a non title fight if he is on the undercard. He will never be the same fighter he was but there is a big payday against the winner of Kess v Froch they wont risk him losing.

We can not know the time limit, but we can suspect it's end of 2013.

I would be astonished if Frampton Quigg was part of this card. It's a main event on its own.

Same here. These "fantasy undercards" are hardly ever realistic and just leave people disappointed when the real undercard is announced.

I think it's a case of many fans hoping that the PPV won't be a gigantic rip-off. You can't ignore that the main event is costing £4m approximately. We know Eddie's not covering that with ticket sales, hence the PPV.

But he doesn't keep that much of the £15 - only around £3 or something, so I haven't a clue how he's going to put on a solid card without running serious losses - which is just so wrong-headed for a "ppv-quality" fight.

If theres a lot of spare money to spend on a real quality undercard then you could maybe ask the question does the Froch-Kessler "need" to be PPV? If the purse demands were the driving force for the PPV then, instead of adding to that unnessarcerily, could not the fight of gone on without PPV but with a poorer undercard?

PPV AND an expensive undercard seems unlikely to me.
