Why Froch vs Calzaghe should have happened- a lesson for other boxers

    The whole point of the thread though was about beating good, ranked prospects with the idea that in the future they will go on to achieve a lot and be a good name on the resume. Froch has not ventured up to 175 up to this day but he might have done for Joe.

    Sorry but its not as simple as that, more like a double edged sword. What if Joe had Lacy'd an unexperienced Froch to the point he never fully recovers his confidence. Surely a loss would have meant he misses out on the super6 and never builds his considerable resume.

    Calzaghe had achieved just about everything he could in boxing. He did not need to fight Froch. However, Joe stated that he felt Froch was calling him out just to build publicity but in reality, Froch would have been a very good name on Joe's resume. I am sure most boxing fans would rate Calzaghe higher if he had a win against Froch on his resume.

    Calzaghe had just took out the 2 best undefeated prospects in the division in Lacy and Kessler, I understand your train of thought but after he postponed retirement and took out Froch, there would be someone else come along as well to offer a challenge.

    I think if most people are honest, they are extremely surprised at what Froch has gone on to achieve considering his limited ability. Hindsights a wonderfull thing and Calzaghe might have ruined a green Froch anyway.

    I think Froch has shown that he has the mental strength to bounce straight back from defeat.

    Maybe a domestic clash with Froch instead of Manfredo?

    The only time I see a fight between Calzaghe and Froch as even a possibility is if Calzaghe fought him early 2007 instead of Manfredo. Calzaghe was loosing his passion for boxing and was determined to retire after 2008, so Froch's window of opportunity is fleeting. Question is, was Froch a more suitable opponent at the time than Manfredo was?

    Froch was mandatory to Clalzaghe's WBC belt. He was in the same position Kell Brook is in now and well known in British boxing from blowing Damon Hauge out in 1 round years earlier for the British title.

    Froch being a nobody at the time was bull****. Hennessy offered fisheyes millions to fight Froch. Joe would be a lot better today legacy wise if he took the fight but a win wasn't a guarantee and he could well of lost.

    Froch became mandatory for the WBC belt after Joe fought Hopkins. Joe was done at 168.

    Kessler was a fight Joe could have lost. Hopkins was a fight Joe could have lost. Do you think HBO would have accepted Froch as an opponent?

    ^Wrong. Joe vacated and moved up to LH and Froch fought Pascal for the vacant belt.

    HBO didn't want Roy, they wanted Joe to fight Pavlik.

    Calzaghe thought Manfredo is a far more deserving option and Calzaghe is an all-time great at picking bums.
