How does it baffle you? The doctor stopped it. It wasn't stopped during the round or by the ref. You don't get why people argue about the fight atsch. Christ.
Amazing chin? Hasim Rahman the definition of Average! Didn't start boxing until age 20,one went 3 years without a single win, lost to old Holyfield,KO'd Lewis in 5 with 1 punch! Oliver McCall,Tyson's sparring partner! Without Lewis,McCall never does anything in boxing!
Don't totally disagree with you, except that it was better than shaky. Decent chin, as in it can get dented by a big punch from a big puncher. Certainly not iron or "good".
When rating chins I don't think we should rate the ability of the fighter, just their power. That aside, both McCall and Rahman are far better than average.
LEWIS NEVER HAD CHIN TO BE CHAMP Wallace Matthews Last Updated: Posted: 12:00 AM, April 24, 2001 "... it wouldn't have mattered if Lennox Lewis had trained for three months at the top of Mt. Everest. You can't turn a glass into granite, no matter how hard you try. Lewis' first name should really have been spelled Lenox, as in china. ... Lewis is 35 years old. He's now a two-time victim of one-punch KOs by heavyweights considered average before they smacked him on the whiskers. Believe me, we've already seen The Best of Lennox Lewis..."
Well Butterbean had good power! What does that say? That because he had power he has a good shot to beat Lewis as long as he lands. McCall was a sparring partner. Without Lewis he would have done nothing else. McCall even struggled to beat old Larry Holmes. Plus Oliver was a crack cocaine addict. And Rahman? This guy was a tough club fighter. He was rocked by James Toney,KO'd by Maskaev, lost to Ruiz via decision! Rahman should not have been able to ever beat Lewis. One frak loss by McCall is ok but 2 losses by shocking KO are not forgivable.
Well yeah, if Butterbean connected flush on Lewis, I would say Lewis is not that great but not because of his chin, but rather because he got caught by Butterbean with a flush shot. That or Butterbean was just extremely lucky. I'm just saying, if you wanna say he wasn't as great as most say was because he lost to Rahman and McCall who you consider average, ok, but bad chin because he got KO'd by flush shots from them? Maybe average chin. He did fight pretty good punchers and took solid shots from them. Mercer, Vitali, Briggs come to mind. A glassed jawed fighter would have fallen more often.
His chin was average at BEST, his skill, heart, power, & Manny Steward made him hall of fame material
Well I see what you're saying but Lewis fought an old Mercer and many people thought Mercer actually won. Ok fine. Also Briggs fought Lewis with a fractured right hand and still rocked him in 1. Vitali is widely considered to not be a one punch KO artist.
Lots of dumb in this thread. Lennox did not have an iron chin. Lennox did have a great chin. He fought the biggest and most amount of punchers in heavyweight history and was caught with way too many flush shots to argue otherwise.
what a dummy. dude, for real though, Lennox is an ATG easily. You trying to discredit that is not happening. I'd pay to watch you take a few jabs from Rock & McCall. Since yer an expert and all...
Lennox Lewis isn't an ATG easily He's an ATG spot on, it shouldn't even be discussed if he's one because there's only one answer possible. :good
