And he's just plain not that good a fighter. He comes from a base of a limited skillset that didn't include striking, he's not blessed with great power or speed or top-rate natural ability, and his biggest natural advantage is his gas tank. Still, it's not like he hasn't been in some entertaining fights in his career. But for some reason Koa has a real hard-on for this guy who isn't within shouting distance of being considered for a title shot. :conf :hat
I don't know if you can justify that statement. He gave Nick Diaz and Diego Sanchez all they wanted. Guida also completely nullified anything Pettis wanted to do. Guida also has 15 submissions, including a somewhat impressive 3 fight streak over Gugerty, Dos Anjos, and Gomi. The Dos Anjos submission was not your typical submission victory, as he had broken Dos Anjos' jaw and made him tap by burying his shoulder in it, but it was still a victory by submission.
That's true. I did sell him short. :good I guess by "not that good a fighter" I mean he's always a couple of wins away from being seriously considered for a title shot. Like Bisping, he tends to lose to the guys he needs to beat in order to get his name to the top of the queue. :good :hat
No other fighter on Earth can inspire this much disdain in people that they want to see stomps and soccer kicks back like Clay
What amaze me is that most of the people against stomp and soccer kick don't count has effective fighting technique. And let just forget the big elephant in the room....taking away soccer kick give a big advantage to wrestler.... Plus you take away weapon from fighter, wich is most of the time a bad idea !
Or they just think it screams "street thug" instead of "professional athlete." Eye-gouging and throat strikes are effective fighting techniques too. You can't blend the rules and scoring system so that everyone gets exactly what works for them. It's not like strikers can't compete or are even at a really significant disadvantage. The most dominant champion in UFC history is virtually a pure striker, he wants every fight to be entirely contested on the feet. You take away many weapons from fighters anyway. Head butts, groin strikes, fishhooks, small joint manipulation. This isn't a fight to the death. Besides, if you won't take soccer kicks and stomps away from MMA, you will take MMA away from TV. :bart :hat
Honestly Haggis, if bringing back soccer kick and stomp can make you stop watching MMA, I'm all for it !
You want the sport to attract top-level athletes and have major cards live on primetime free-to-air TV and have shows in your area that you can go to? Or do you want it to be an irrelevant nonentity in professional sports, like it was a decade ago? :conf :hat
