Golovkin jabs at other 160lb titleholders

WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin has taken some jabs at other high profile middleweights in action this week. In a press release, the unbeaten Golovkin praised IBF champion Daniel Geale for his win over Anthony Mundine, then reminded everyone that Geale chose to fight Mundine and gave up the WBA middleweight ‘super’ title rather than face him as was ordered by the WBA. “Geale said after the fight that he wanted to fight in the US this year, look no further we can make a title unification bout this summer.”

Golovkin also wished former WBA middleweight ‘super’ champion Felix Sturm the best of luck in Friday’s IBF eliminator against Sam Soliman, then added “Felix avoided me as his mandatory for over two years when he was champion, but I will give him the opportunity to fight for his old title whenever he would like to.”

Golovkin also indicated he would welcome a unification fight with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, but realizes that fight might be a long way away as Sergio’s promoter Lou DiBella is afraid to acknowledge him for fear that it might set up a Golovkin-Martinez showdown.

Regarding WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin, Golovkin stated, “I’m aware that his fight with Fernando Guerrero was pushed back until the end of April. He’s talked about fighting me in the past and I’m certainly interested if he’s serious.”

“I want the biggest fights and the best challenges as I’ve said all along. With HBO broadcasting my fights, either Geale or Sturm would be a perfect fight this year.”

 

If he's fighting 3+ times a year a soft touch isn't that big of a deal... Just unsure on if he'll fight that many times.. And regardless, the opponent being in his weight class would help stop some criticism.

 

yeah i can respect that... but he also beat sylvester much faster right after Geale went with him (sylvester 12 rounds). He also avenged his loss to Hope... every fighter has nights off (Even ATGs Lennox, Wlad and i am sure others... please don't mis interpert i am not comparing Proksa to them... just compering the situation of an off night). It really depends what proksa does in the next couple of years to find out if he was A/B Level or C+ level.

 

I agree that it is the entire body of work that counts, and I do also believe that Proksa had an off night against Hope, but consistency is also what makes a fighter good.. (Both Wlad and Lennox improved their game and consistency).
However Proksa is yet to show that he can consistently beat solid/good fighters, his win over Sylvester is superb, and it's his best by a long shot. I did however see a poster on here, who explained how Proksa was a stylistic nightmare for Sebastian (Low hand offense vs high guard defense), and that's why he was able to dispose of him quickly (credit to Proksa).
But I think that the beating GGG gave him might have a permanent effect on him, no doubt he is/was a good fighter though.

 

The OP needs a life. Try to follow boxing moron. None of the
beltholders, and i mean NONE want to fight GGG. They've even gone
on record to say it. Quillen said it doesn't sense, Geale's riding
high off his mundane win, and sergio's fighting fighters he and
his promoter KNOW he can beat. It's either Ishida or nobody.
It's amazing you don't give quillen schtick for fighting a can
grady brewer KO'd. At least Ishida is world ranked.

he wants them, but they want nothing to do with him. he can't force them into the ring.

 

if your name is canelo, yes. but the difference with GGG is that he actually wants to fight the best.

 

He last fought on jan 19th and Now he's fighting again on March 30th that's some old school **** right there.

 

He is making a habit of late of beating up little guys. Hard to believe there are no journeymen available at weight.

In fairness he's not the biggest middleweight at 5-9 5-10 in height.

 

That didn't force Mike Tyson to fight blown up cruisers... This is a lot of things, fairness isn't one of them.

I don't see him as the ducking type, but his management may be keeping him busy the "safest" way possible. That isn't a bad thing until a real opportunity opens up.

what a joke! pathetic as ****. is it too much to ask of a champ to fight a decent fighter from his own division?? this guy is becoming the shittiest champ in the sport. you know what happens when you feast on cans forever? you get shell shocked when you finally fight someone decent, first live body with a bit of skill is gonna school this guy and I'm gonna laugh at the fanboys.

I like Golovkin's style and not trying to hate the fighter, mostly trying to expose the matchmakers and HBO for the smoke and mirror shows they like to do. They've been throwing in overmatched guys (that happen to have a name in the boxing community) against a fighter they are trying to get over, feels like a real version of wrestling.

It's not enough that they need to find some guy to lose but they need to take extra precautions and get a guy from a lower weight class. There's no 15 - 20 ranked middleweight out there with atleast a punchers chance to make it interesting? **** a unification fight, I'm not that naive to think these bouts are so easy to make, but can't they find some journeyman super middleweight or middleweight?
