Danny has said he'll fight whoever his promoters put in front of him. Regarding Matthysse, his exact words were: "I never got a phone call saying 'Hey, you're fighting Lucas Matthysse' and I said no. I've never got a phone call saying to fight Lucas Matthysse. If the phone rings and they say Lucas Matthysse is your next fight then we’ll fight. I've never ducked nobody." If that phone call is not telling him to fight Matthysse, then he won't. With all due respect, it's not about what you feel Khan deserves, and it's not about what you and I want. It's about what Schaefer and GBP want. And they say they want Garcia-Khan II by the end of the year. So again, Khan is not stuck. His plans have been laid out for him.
The more I think about this the more it makes sense. Khan will just avoid everyone, rematch Garcia and hopefully run to a decision, then move up a weight and avoid Matthyse. Maybe he'll fight Peterson after if he beats Garcia so he can claim to have cleaned up at 140 before claiming he can't make the weight at the convenient moment that Matthyse is calling him out.
Now you're getting it :good But seriously, Khans only intentions are to get that rematch with Garcia and hold those titles again. And thats not exactly the biggest crime in the world (wanting a shot at the number one guy of the division). He feels hes achieved enough at 140 already -- which, to be fair, he has done a good job there over the past few years -- and so the next logical step is moving up to 147. And really, who exactly is "everyone" that hell avoid at 140? Its just Matthysse. Hes the only other meaningful person left. The rest Alexander, Ortiz, etc have all gone up.
The way people talk about Khans chin you'd think he's been dropped/hurt in every fight. His beard obviously aint the best, but the guy has taken plenty of good shots in his time, Garcia was the first guy to drop him at 140 and that was from a flush counter he didn't see coming. Would have put most on their arse
They're with Top Rank. Fights with them aren't possible. Hence why Matthysse is the only significant, and realistic, person he can be matched up with. Besides, he tried getting it on with JMM in the past (to which Nacho refused), and for the fame/recognition I see no reason why, if given the opportunity, he wouldn't want him now. In fact, he'd jump at the chance to fight him. Khan's team love the big names and JMM is a big name. And regarding Rios, again, if he's willing to step in with Ortiz up at 147 (who'd brutalise him far worse) then I don't see why he would be afraid of Rios.
I get what you're saying, but then I don't see why he would be scared of Prescott either on that basis yet that rematch hasn't happened either yet?! He could have had Prescott instead of Molina, bigger fight, more interest, more money, and gets to avenge a loss. Yet he has avoided Prescott like the plague, maybe at one point before Peterson he wanted to fight JMM (I think it was after he got beat convincingly by Mayweather) but I'm not so sure now. The way Garcia timed him imagine what JMM would do to him, especially after the Pac KO, he won't fancy that at all. Rios perhaps he would fight, he seems quite limited and slow so he may suit Khan.
It’s all about risk vs. reward. Ortiz, Alexander, Garcia, JMM, Mayweather and others, despite being much better and more dangerous than Prescott, are more appealing and easier to chase because their rewards far outweigh the risks. If he beats them he’ll receive a **** load of credit, and if he loses it’s not that big of a deal because he’d have lost to the best. Prescott, on the other hand, doesn’t give him any of the above. He’s too much of a risk for such little reward. He was desperate to avenge the Peterson defeat because Peterson was/is a world class fighter with a title. He’s in hot pursuit of Garcia because he also holds the titles and is considered the number one of the division. He’s not arsed about Prescott because he doesn’t hold or represent anything significant for him to risk another embarrassing loss over. And again, he would love to fight JMM. I'm willing to bet my house he would. JMM may put his lights out, but being an elite name that would bring him endless amounts of praise and a gateway to Mayweather, his team would jump at the chance and risk it.
