What was the bigger decrease in Skill that you notice in Tyson post-prison?

IMO the way he set up his combinations is really bad in comparison with pre-prison......
He still had speed, power, and even his offensive footwork was almost the same to me......but his jab and his combinations were not there anymore.

Anyone notice something else ??

 

Movement.

Didn't take his head off center. Tyson was never extremely difficult to hit, but post prison he was straight up easy. Botha was having a bit of a field day, and people were getting concerned until that kayo, I remember

 

His superior head movement also decreased greatly.

 

Yeah, very well said, head movement was poor after prison.....

 

No side movement, he telegraphed his punches..especially his straight right, easy to clinch, couldn't fight 12 rounds anymore

 

Got manhandled by Botha then kaboom! Crazy power.
Maggna would you agree Tyson wasnt trying to prove
his greatness to himself at this point, just going for it
With a style that depended on peak physical condition
that he simply didnt have?

 

Stamina isn't really a skill but it was very poor after prison, abandon all head/upperbody movement, Didn't throw punches in bunches

 

His defense was somewhat not the same. He didn't use his reflexes like he use to.

 

good post but i disagree on one point: i feel 87-89 tyson was very hard to hit clean

 

He got hit a lot by a whole bunch of really crap fighters. Part of it was style(He was coming for the KO from bell to bell, so he was gonna walk into a couple), part of it was that the peekaboo is an overrated, ineffective method of defense.

He was no defensive wizard, just an offensive hurricane and possibly the fastest heavyweight puncher ever.

 

He slipped the jab llke a mofo against Biggs wo had that
philly style.

 

Head movement if I had to pick anything.

Although the Tyson that destroyed Bruno was arguably the most offensively destructive version of himself we ever saw.

 

It gets overstated, but it goes to show how IMPORTANT standing up and holding your ground against a fighter like Tyson is.

If you get meek, if you give an inch, if you let him punch, he'll take a mile and beat the tar out of you. Those hands move too fast and are too heavy, and that man is too mad, too aggressive.

In hindsight, Bruno was lucky to go three.

 

He also didn't seem inclined to throw in combination as often as he did prior to going to prison. A lot of the time, Tyson was one and done during his comeback. Those single punches were still fast and powerful, though, which is why he remained a force for a number of years.
