if you were a boxer, who would you pattern your style after?

What style would you adopt for yourself if you were a boxer? Would you see yourself as a boxer, slugger, swarmer, defensive specialist, etc.,..knowing your own physical capabilities (in perfect honesty),what would be the most realistic style for you in other words.

I imagine I would come across as a poor man's-...a terminally ill, poor, scoliosis-having, clubfooted, senile, constipated, arthritic man's Archie Moore.

Even as a fighter I was always more of a Kelly Pavlik styled fighter. Walking in behind a jab looking to land hard punches and drawing the other guy into an exchange.

At 5'8 I'm not tall, but I'm also only like 145 or so, so I'm taller than most 145lbers. I hit hard, am surprisingly strong on the inside, and have a solid jab with a very strong right hand. I am a very good body puncher, can take a good shot, and have good timing and am actually pretty smart in the ring.

The problems are that I can be outboxed and I can't really go back/move around. I can spin off after an exchange and can cut the ring off, but all around I am not a very mobile fighter. I also do not have good head movement, decent blocking/parrying, but all around my defense is not very good.

If I could pattern myself perfectly after another fighter and realistically pull it off, It'd be Alexis Arguello.

:D..Bravo BE!! I was counting on honesty in this thread..I mean, it's very easy to say..."Well hells bells,,I'd be Ali, Foreman, Louis, SRR and Salvador Sanchez all rolled into one",..or some crap like that. I was counting on some honest self-evaluations here...I for one would be a ******* clone of Hugo Corro, Jimmy Young, Joey Maxim, Sammy Angott and maybe Maxie Rosenbloom (all of these are guys that I obviously have an affinity for), with all the physical infirmities that you mentioned..well, maybe a few of them tossed in the mix as well. I would be a safety first, negative, points scoring,..if I gotta lose, it would be by points type of fighter that the fans would hate.

I boxed for a quite few years (recently I returned to the gym) not as a true amateur but I do my sparring with amateurs and other stuff and I was always a tad too defensive, I am very cautious...
If I was a boxer Boxed Ears would hate me, I would land less punches than.....I don´t :think:know .... Jimmy Young ?! hahaha

If I was a fighter I would be like Jimmy Young on the outside and like John Ruiz on the inside....good enough to me ! :good

Damned good choices Vic! :goodI believe that I would have had to compensate somehow for a general lack of physical gifts and natural athleticism...and that would mean being a negative, defensive spoiler type.

I'd want to be my idol Marco Antonio Barrera, throwing short, company combinations. ...But...I'd probably end up looking like Nick Diaz in his sparring video with Omar Henry.

I tried to pattern it after SRR 'n Joe Brown, but it was hopeless. I was more suited to Graziano.

I would practice one punch...the left jab..incessantly...and then the good ol' 1-2..........the jab followed by an open glove ready to grab or hold the opponent. Defensive spoiler principle #1 you see.
