Abner will find it easier to get to GR, who is not as elusive as Moreno. But whether he can be as effective as he was against Moreno is the big question. I think GR would have to get off first to get AM's respect to make it a manageable fight. He's obviously bigger than AM so he has the ability to hurt AM.
There's a reason Russell and Broner haveb't fought anybody yet, and Haymon is gonna' continue to protect these guys. I'm surprised Wilder isn't in Al's camp. Right now, Mares would **** RUSSELL'S ASS UP.
Mares ain't got no real skills, he a rough and tumble with a lot of heart and grit. However skills pay the bills and Russell has skills up the yang yang. He also has speed and power. If you wanna see a real ass whoopin, put Mares in with Russell and your wish will be granted.:bbb
Sorry but that's shite. Moreno was seen as the more skilled fighter going into the Mares fight and he got his arse handed to him. There's more to assessing a fight than looking at who has the fancier skill set and going with them.
Mares by ko. GR is still in witness protection so it aint happening. He'll be a 30 year old 8x prospect of the year before they let him fight a live body lmao
Moreno ain't no Gary Russell, For one , he was comming up from 118. Mares was stronger and relentless. Moreno didn't have the power to keep him honest. On the other hand, Gary has the speed, power and strenght to not only keep him honest but to knock him the **** out. Plus he is a better technician and all around better fighter. He is better than anybody Mares has faced and better than the man that Mares faces in the mirror.:bbb
Im not going to speculate about this matchup until Russell can beat somebody with a healthy hearbeat unlike all the washed up mexicans he's been beating..
Anyone with natural hand-speed and accuracy can overwhelm opponents who don't have the experience necessary to cope. Mares doesn't just have grit and volume, he has very solid fundamentals. He cuts a ring down efficiently, throws varied combinations, keeps a tight guard, has responsible punching form, decent upper body movement, a good jab, etc. He's faced plenty of respectable punchers and never really been in trouble. Russel Jr. looks nice, and he will continue to improve, but there's a difference between looking good and actually being good. He's never faced an Akbegko, Moreno, Perez, or Darchinyan. This boils down to the fact that half this forum thinks slickness trumps pressure every time, regardless of proven application of skills, and that simply isn't true.
