Rock Newman did miracles with Bowe. He got him the world HW title he helped Bowe by carefully picking opponents eg ducking Lewis.
Bowe had probably the best trainer ever in Eddie Pappa Smurf Futch
Bowe wouldnt get off his fat ass and train for Eddie so his days were numbered. Rock's words to us were " Why risk it all against Lewis when people will buy Dokes & Ferguson with no risk. Rock knew to put Bowe in ring with Lewis the Golden Goose was dead

One point I'd like to make here Ruiz didnt beat Kirk Johnson Joe Cortez did. All Ruiz did was hold & perform oscar winning acting performances screaming that every body punch Kirk threw was low & the faithful Cortez warned Johnson finally DQ ing him. Watch that fight again in slow motion & see how many shots were actually low.
Its funny Cortez could see "low blows" that were really legit yet miss the most blatent headbutt I've seen in a fight

he missed the blatant head low shot from Ruiz on Evander, well he saw it but didnt call it, Cortez is Puerto Rican what do you expect? and the shot ruled Low from Evander was actually a legit shot a legit knock down.
However Johnson did hit that man low no matter what you say thats really what happened, Sure Ruiz held all night but Hopkins holds all the time, if the ref lets it go thats what he does, I think Cortez saved Johnson from being knocked out Ruiz was on his way to knocking out Kirk thats a fact

Gone, too, is Lewis's legacy as his era's dominant heavyweight. As Evander Holyfield and Tyson sagged into history, Lewis had emerged as the division's outstanding talent—hard-hitting, athletic, tough-minded and professional. Now that he's suffered the second loss of his career, all that led to it becomes suspect. Having lost a fight he shouldn't have, in other words, he is no better or worse than the rest of them.

Rahman (pronounced ROCK-mahn), who was installed in this bout as a time-killer, somebody to keep the public interested while Lewis chased Tyson.

The 28-year-old contender from East Baltimore, who didn't take up boxing until he was 20, promised all who would listen that he wasn't the same fighter who had lost to David Tua in 1998 or been knocked out in '99 by Oleg Maskaev.

    Boxing: Lewis v Tyson fight

    Common opponents

BBC Sport Online examines how the pair fared against these men

    Tony Tucker

Lewis floored Tucker twice when they met in 1993. But he also exhibited stamina problems against a man now past his prime and whose body had been ravaged by drug abuse

LEWIS WARNED: THIS IS FOR REAL.

    Author: Dillon, John
    Publication: The Mirror (London, England)
    Date: Sep 25, 1998

LENNOX Lewis was reminded here last night of the harsh truth that he has waded to the top of the world through a pile of washed up drunks and junkies

Emanual Steward has decided it's time to make some plain facts clear to Lewis as they prepare for the next obstacle in his unfulfilled career tomorrow night.

Steward, sensing that Lewis was shrugging off too lightly the challenge of Croatian Zelkjo Mavrovic, reeled off the list of Lewis's recent victims. It reads like the cast of villains from NYPD Blue

"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall Oliver "The Atomic Bull" McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight," said Steward.

"Henry Akinwande's trainer Don Turner didn't turn up until a few days before the fight because he was busy with Evander Holyfield.

"And last time out against Shannon Briggs in March? All Briggs was interested in was telling people he'd fought the champion and he never, ever, believed he could win."

Steward added: "In the four years I've been with Lennox, Ray Mercer - in May 1996 - was the only opponent who was in really good shape.
