Why Is Floyds Opponent Such A Secret?

Steve Kim is saying on twitter that the delay is related to a Showtime/HBO conflict since Showtime has some sort of deal with Canelo and Floyd will only fight on HBO.

 

Didn't Floyd say at some point that it takes 6 months to promote a fight?

 

You care obviously. Why else would you be posting at least 10 times in every single Floyd thread on this board.

 

Could be but he hasn't spent that much time promoting a fight in years. Shane, Ortiz, Cotto, etc were announced no more than 4 months before the fight.

I think he (or whoever said that quote) was referring to a potential Pacquiao fight to maximize its commercial potential.

As with most Floyd fights it will be someone decent but not the person people really want to see him against.

 

Josie Harris announced she is still banging Floyd so my guess is his next fight is with Shantel Jackson. Or Leonard Ellerbee. Good match up either way.

 

I heard that Anthony Mundine will be taking the fight.

 

The reason it's not happening is because canelo is demanding that he have a guarantee in writing to fight floyd next...floyd isnt going to do that because if canelo walks through trout or whoever he fights then floyd is gonna duck him.

At the same time hes needed canelo name to pump up his last two PPVs ..and he'll definitely need it to sell this boring crap fight

 

From this information that's out there, this has nothing to do with the holdup as it has already been agreed upon.

I wouldn't be surprised. I still think that played more of a role in the Donaire/Mares fight not happening than we know. Show had money invested in Mares, tourney and all. They can't go all in like HBO so they kinda pick their spots and Mares won their tourney so to have the winner go fight Donaire on HBO isn't something they wanna see happen.

Guerrero who has been a champion since 2006 is a deserving, but not atractive oppoenent for Mayweather. Other than Bradley and Marquez there isn't a better boxer right now at 147. Alvarez could get the shot in May. He's more apealing than Guerrero, but might not be as ready. A win over Trout in May would give him the experance needed to prep him for a Mayweather fight. A trout win over Alvarez which is the more likely result will give trout the expouser to justify a bout with Mayweather. Trout is the only person at 147 or 154 who I can see giving Mayweather a tough fight.
When it comes down to it, Golden Boy can't offer him an ideal oppoent. They either lack the experance or apeal.
It's possible that they are trying to get Marquez who is with Top Rank. I think that if they had a deal with Guerrero, Alvarez or even Trout. We'd know about it. It seems that Marquez is not pleased with Top Rank. It would make sense that after a career defining victory against Manny Pacquiao, in which he knocked him out in the 6th round. While it was his only win in their four bouts, which included a draw and two close loses. The second lose being a very unpopular decision. One can argue that Marquez was never vanquished by Pacquiao, and with his knockout over him Marquez has vanquished Pacquiao. It would make sense that Marquez would get a fight with Bradley. However Bradley is singed to fight Provodnikov in March, in what seems to be a tune up for something? One might think a latter match up with Marquez, but Top Rank seemes to be pushing a 5th Marquez/Pacquiao bout. Marquez reportedly turned it down. I don't blame him. He has reason to belive that he's 3-0-1 against Pacquiao.

Other than the fact that that it might not be that easy to get contracts singed with a Top Rank boxer, there is the fact that Mayweather won a one sided decision over Marquez back in 2009. However as I stated above Marquez is coming off of a career defining win. He also at his age might have a limmited time at the top of the boxing world. There is also the revenge factor.

I think that if Mayweather was fighting GBP guy. The fight would be singed and the promoting would be in effect. They do have a limited amount of time to make a Marquez deal, before settleing on Guerrero, Alvarez or Trout.

If you want my guess as to who he fights in May. Despite their best efforts to get Marquez away from Top Rank, I think Guerrero gets the May fight.
