I mean, I'm trying to be objective with this kid, and I really do want to see someone step forward and become next "big thing" in the sport. But is Canelo the guy? It seems like Golden Boy is pretty desperate to keep him out of any halfways dangerous bouts in order to protect their investments. I still remember Gomez, of all ****ing people, giving him fits in their fight, and nothing really stood out from the Mosley fight to make me say "wow". Now it seems like he's desperate to get the Floyd fight sooner than later. Tell me what you think.. is he going to become the legit king @ 154?
that's the problem. fighters used to fight their way into being a star, now everyone wants to "build a star".
I honestly don't see how he beats Trout. If he were to pull off a legit win against him, I would get on board.
I was surprised when he was going to fight Paul Williams, I think he would have lost to Williams. Trout would school him IMO...
Paul Williams was damaged goods and his trainer sucked big time. Sad. PW had 'the stuff' to be much better than he was.

Williams didn't use his height for leverage. (**** he didn't use his height and reach for anything for that matter) He was a volume arm puncher and I don't think he would have stopped Canelo from getting on the inside and punishing the body.
Arn't all boxers? He's not going to beat Mayweather in May or September. He won't beat Trout either, but that dose not mean he can't beat anyone else at 154. Even if he were to lose to Mayweather or Trout, at 22 he has his whole career a head of him.
His form in the Lopez fight was impressive. I know, Lopez was very small for the weight, but that doesn't detract from the fundamentals Canelo had on display. Same with the Mosley fight; his guard, tightness in punching form, and patience were all indicative of talent and maturity. Same with Quintana, who is probably one of his better opponenets. The Gomez fight definitely showed some of his limitations, but that seemed like a night he was trying to imitate Mayweather for some reason. Trout would be the perfect test at this time IMO, he's due for a proper championship-level challenge.
Last amateur card I want to a kid was beating the **** out of the mitts warming up. I'm sure had he ever hit his opponent he would have won. No **** Lopez was undersized. Easy to have good form when you don't have to worry about the opponent.
Gomez can box a bit. He just doesn't have the punching power nor the durability to hang with the big boys. Canelo has been displaying his skillset of solid defense and his strength / size is apparent. He walked down every opponent and keeps a tight defense that most boxer just won't be able to break through or deal with. Canelo would beat Trout if they meet. And Canelo would be a solid favorite in that fight. Oh yeah, I can see most of the people bad mouthing/doubting him comes from the tards bc Floyd expressed interest in the kid. So get your work done early, start the bum talk lol.
