Calzaghe is a great undefeated champion who beat lots of good fighters like Eubank , Ferreyra , Robin Reid , Lacy , Bika , Kessler , Hopkins and RJJ but Ward is on another level of skills and he masters very well his craft , period. I don't even want to think what Ward would do to Calzaghe with his inside roughness game. How do you see this fight going ?
Who has ever said otherwise? Ward is clearly more versatile. Calzaghe has more hand speed and throws a higher volume. In just about every other relevant category Ward either tops him or they are level.
:deal Joe has hand speed, Ward is more versatile. No need for fans of one or the other to act like their guy is superior, physically, in every way. As far as the ambition to fight the best available, they are not comparable at all, however.
I couldn´t have said it better...but will add. that if you LOOK at Clazaghe in his early years was a hard puncher!! But his hands was desroyed by that and he began throwing faster combinations and lesser KO punches...Calzaghe had an awesome career.Ward is just started, but he sure has all the talent, but give him some time...Before making useless and meanningless comparising.Maybe you think Ward would beat JC,and another wont..okay great!!!
Do you really want to open the "level of opposition" and "willingness to travel" can of worms as it relates to Calzaghe? :huh
46-0 All tried, all failed. Prime Hopkins got slammed around Prime Roy Jones Jr got beaten by an old green lhw in CalSLAMmy Greatest of all time ahead of Salty Ray Leonard.
both ducked pavlik D but seriously though...there is an epic gif on here that gets posted repeatedly of calzaghe throwing a several slap combo against hopkins while hopkins is on the ropes and nothing but the air got hit. never see that out of ward. ward is a more complete fighter but joe was tough as **** and it would be a good fight.
calzahe whoops him. ward is hit way to often and way to slow for calazaghe. if ward was german this convo wouldnt even be happening but as his passport has USA on it.....I mean even Froch who is in no means quick and more a limited slugger type landed 30% of his punches on Ward (kessler landed 35%). Plus calzaghe didnt get dropped by a no-name bum and fight out of Newport his entire career.
Ward-Bika was 7-5 imo not what the pitiful hometown scores had and a very close fight. Calzaghe beat Bika much more convincingly with much of the action being fought inside and Calzaghe looking brilliant doing it. Ward and Hunter are very good at coming up with gameplans and Ward at implementing them, Joe could do it in the moment and improvise at any point during the fight to make necessary adjustments. Maybe his most unique and formitable quality.
Ward would lose a close but clear UD to a prime Joe Cal. After my Pizza I shall explain why, if anyone doubts my genius. (Sturm vs Soliman does not count.)
Ward got hurt by Kost and Boone within his first year in the pros. Since then we've seen him rumble with world class punchers and not bat an eyelash. Both have excellent chins. It isn't as though Joe's never been hurt or dropped whatsoever. Reid, Brewer, shot Eubank, shot Jones...
