Most definitely a weirdo, with perhaps a shred of Napoleon syndrome.

Dude's putting together one of the best resumes of his era and has got the best left hand in all of boxing, though.

To me it sounds like it simulates the effects of EPO. Providing extra oxygen while training so that the body can work harder. I'm no expert but that seems to make sense.

That's absolute bs, that doesn't make any sense at all physiologically. He's not mimicking altitude training with the mask, all he's doing is limiting his ability to work out with intensity. Donaire repeats what Conte tells him and Conte is in the business of selling placebos.
Altitude training in the first place is useless to a boxer fighting at sea level, the changes to your red blood cell count take a long time to come into effect and they don't last for long. You're far better off sleeping at altitude and training at sea level, training at altitude just decreases your intensity and in turn your fitness.

What's funny is that I am actually far more qualified in this area than Conte. Look up Conte's qualifications and then PM me for mine :good

So you have worked with more accomplished athletes than Conte?

No it's the opposite of that, hypoxic means restricting oxygen. It's a mask that essentially allows you to train not as hard. That restriction is meant to increase red blood cell count as an adaptation but for that to happen Donaire would have to sleep with the mask on. Training with it on is just a pointless gimmick, MMA fighters enjoy doing it as well so they can feel 'scientific' and 'cutting-edge'. There's no science behind it.

Olympic gold medallists and elite athletes, yes. More accomplished than Conte? He was involved with elite level athletes as well so I won't say that. Does Conte have a degree? A masters degree?
He has nothing, he was a musician who got into the business of selling expensive placebos.
I'm not making this up, he is literally not qualified at all in the things he talks about. His association with BALCO gives his placebos a lot of power so athletes hire him. He is a salesman, an absolute bullshitter. He likes to talk about profiling his athletes blood as if he's some pioneer doing something amazing, it sounds cutting edge to his athletes and people who are uneducated but it means absolutely nothing.

I thought the mask is giving Donaire more oxygen. The may have gotten the name wrong, but that's what he seems to be saying it does

Isn't that training intentionally depriving the body of oxygen and making it used to work even with less air?

No it's meant to simulate the relatively reduced partial pressure of oxygen found at altitude. Inhaling oxygen isn't going to do anything. Donaire is saying that because he doesn't understand it, that's why I found it funny when he tried to explain it.

I got you, it's just the way he described it in the video. Donaire was making it seem like that he was able to catch his breath quicker with the mask on, so I assumed the mask was giving him more oxygen

Simulates high altitude training, which is the effects of EPO on the number of RBCs.

Don't know if it's effective though, because your body needs to acclimate to hypoxic environment to produce more RBCs, I don't know if your body will do it if it's done intermittently.

Exactly. He directly expressed that he was able to breathe in better and go harder and longer when the mask is on as opposed to off.
