I know this isnt abouy the heavys but remember the rjj and dm situation? Roy kept up beating the best contenders and cleaned out the division except for dm, who sat in germany defending his "lineal" title and fihting roys leftovers

Eventually they were both lineal champs at the same time until dm lost to a roy left over. So was he really the champ im that instance? He refused to fight roy and he had no mandatories with that lineal title so he could get away with fighting subpar competition.

Lineal titles dont mean much now ... Its more of a prestige title now

Yeah, Roy whooped GOnzales who then went on to beat DM. I'd imagine Roy should have been considered "the man" in the division. Even before that really.

That's the point if Ali is still champ during retirement then he's never champ at all because tunney would have took it to his grave.

Yeah. The whole re-establishing of it is hazy, especially when fighters retire or leave the division.

Yes but is that the case? Did Roy refuse to fight DM in Germany or did DM refuse to fight Roy in the states, who's refusing who?

    Both did.

Roy had a more justifiable reason IMO. And DM made his point by fighting his leftovers.

i kinda give him a pass for that

and because DM was fighting his leftovers

Roy was the king of the LHWs then, not DM
