The power of being likable. He can do as he pleases and the fans will go along with it.

I'm not saying it's right, just the way it is.

It's the same in other sports. David Ortiz gets 1/100th the hate of A-rod but they've both tested dirty. The likable guy who is always smiling gets the free pass.

He's coming back from knee surgery?

After a super fight, most fighters take a mandatory, you muppet.

You're probably right, too. Had Jr. beaten Martinez then taken on a light touch, he would be getting **** for it. He's not the likable guy.

He'll have had a fairly long layoff, coming off of surgery, is at an advanced age, and the guy he's fighting is on par with Felix Sturm. Not GGG but certainly not a bad matchup for a comeback fight. There's also a big difference in respect for the man who earned his title vs the man who was given his title. If Martinez goes on from this fight to fight someone else of this level, the hate should start flowing.

The most minor of knee surgeries, arthroscopic surgery

There have been NO cases of an athlete's career being hampered due to the effects of this surgery. It's as minor as having your wisdoms removed.

Stop making it out like it's an acl/mcl tear. Good lord.

Crazy to think Chavez Jr. Was the same age as Serge when Margarito beat the **** out Martinez as per his loss to "Maravilla".

    Similar late starts...

Shutup you bellend, this isn't a Mayweather thread, so why are you here?

Martinez has just had a super fight, he is in his mid to late thirties and has just had surgery on his knee, given that he's a fighter who relies on speed of movement, he's quite right to take a voluntary defence.

Murray is ranked #7 by the ring, and his only blemish is a questionable draw with Felix Sturm, it's not that soft a touch. It's hardly Martinez vs Kerry Hope is it? :patsch

Martinez has taken this fight so he can have a homecoming bout in Argentina, it's a celebration of Martinez, not a statement fight.
