Didn't he say he would fight anyone except Jeffries??? Sounds like a duck to me...

 

How does that effect his resume??

Just to play devil's advocate....

• Dirty Fighter
• Virtually no footage of his fights
• Won world title in a single division (middleweight), with only 6 successful defences
• Given too much credit for achievements at LHW, considering he fought much of his career above MW limit
• Career cut short by untimely death
• Lost series against both Tunney and Flowers
• Lost consensus paper decision against O'Dowd, when Greb was in his prime and middleweight title was on the line
• Wins over Tunney and Gunboat Smith tainted due to fouls
• Walker was moving up from welter when he fought Greb, and Loughran was green
• Flattened by mediocre Joe Chip
• Decked multiple times by journeyman Soldier Jones
• Struggled with the likes of Fay Keiser and the smaller Soldier Bartfield
• Failed to stop inferior opponents, resulting in low knockout percentage
• Huge amounts of no-decision fights makes objective analysis of resume difficult

 

Won world title in one division but beat the champ in the above division multiple times. Chased the champ in the division above that all the way to Hollywood.

He beat 7 lhw fighters who make my top 20. Is it possible to give that too much credit?

Walker moved up from welter but was a future mw champ and had defeated the lhw champ.

The series he lost are amongst the most debated in history.

Career cut short

His win over tunney is one of the best, no taint is there.

Chip is far from mediocre.

His ko % sucked but that's no biggy.

His resume cannot be picked apart successfully.

I would add Devon alexander and Amir Khan to that list, they always get ignored in those lists - they fight everyone reasonable, no matter the result, they fight them

 

After reading the one dude try to call me out a couple times, I was going to make a "devil's advocate" list like this one. Good stuff.

Yo, I like Greb and rate him top 10 ATG. No hate going on here.

But I will say that his resume CAN BE DISPUTED EASILY. My basis would be; "Oh, did you ever see him in person? No? How about on video tape? Oh, still no? Only some sparring? That's cool."

His resume, on the grounds I just said, is automatically disputable. Not discreditable, two different things, which is perhaps what you're (guy from earlier in the thread) not understanding.

 

A great fighter will test himself and inevitably end up with losses. In recent memory, only Andre Ward has faced the best his division had to offer and come out unscathed, at least for now.

Charles and Greb are probably the most air tight resumes in boxing history.

In recent memory, Oscar, the Mexican Trinity (JMM, MAB, Morales), Mosley, Cotto, and perhaps Gatti come to mind.

 

Good shout Jeff.But although I pointed him out earlier,Mike McCallum has one of the best resumes of the modern era and is criminally ignored by some.
Between 87-91 he fought;Curry,Kalambay(twice),Collins,Watson and Toney.
Add to that he was frozen out of the mega fights with the four kings because he was seen as far too risky for too little reward.Worth mentioning that he iced Julian Jackson and Minchillo too.
I know I can waffle on about the Body Snatcher,but watch his prime era fights(not just the big names either) and you'll see where I'm coming from.

When it comes to resumes which are just under the top level but still very admirable,Fernando Vargas deserves a mention too.
