Is it safe to say Wladimir got the worst chin of the top 10 heavyweights?

I think most sane people would have Joe Louis in their top ten, in which case I would have to put him forward as a strong candidate. Dropped, rocked and wobbled by a number of not especially huge punchers including a SMW in Conn. Great recovery abilities but physically not very durable.

Wlad's chin I think is average. He can physically take a hard shot without immediately having his lights put out. It's his ability to mentally keep it together coupled with poor stamina that have let him down in the past. Nowhere near the top of the list of course but his fragility tends to get rather overblown.

    I disagree.

Jack Johnson went 15 years fighting at the top level without being stopped.

I think we have to assume that he was more durable.

Again, the fact that the marks against Louis's chin are him getting dropped and wobbled, as opposed to actualy being stopped, rather undermines the argument.

I think that the beating that he took in the first Schmeling fight would have stopped darn near anybody, then again you have a fifteen year period where he is fighting at top level.

Love my man Vit, but if that's top 10, I'm top 30.

I have Wlad at 16 and rising. I have Vitali in the 20's. He has good wins, and hurtful losses, just like Wlad, but Wlad's reign is longer, more stable, and frankly, against better fighters.

of course they didn't have super middleweight back than...Conn's offical weight for the first fight was 174, however the actual weight for Conn is reported to have been 169, which would be just about supermiddle weight today (and in fact..now a days a super middle weight is actually close to a cruiserweight..since most do a day earlier weigh in and end up putting on a good 10 pounds or more. )

They do. Corrie Sanders is by far the hardest puncher I've witnessed in person. Brewster's left hook is just as hard as anyone's. They aren't all time greats, but they're definitely some of the hardest single shot punchers ever. You have to consider that the weight factor plays in here.

Perhaps you should rewatch the fight mate...then watch Wlad v Sanders to see the greatest heavyweight of all time destroyed in 1 and a half rounds by a fat golfer.

How so Wlad outweighed both men by about 20lbs ?

Floyd Patterson was never counted out either but his chin wasn't great.

I'm implying that Brewster and Sanders were physically massive by heavyweight standards from the last century, so when those guys threw punches with correct balance and leverage, which they did, I think it's safe to say they could punch harder than almost anyone pre 1950, etc.

Any chin no matter how strong can be cracked with a clean shot. Lewis, Louis, Johnson, Sharkey and many others are fine examples. The thing with Wlad though, is not just that he was KOd with those one shot powers, but it seems like every clean shot that is landed on him results in him pannicking and desperately trying to clinch. I think that he easily has the most questionable chin of any ATG.

It is hard to even think of big shots that he has taken well. I am sure there might have been but i cant think of any off hand. He is good enough to hardly ever have to, but I have never seen an ATG look in so much in so much danger every time he is hit. It is really hard to imagine Wlad triumphing over any other fighter in a war. Hopefully he will prove this soon, but at the moment i think he has to clearly rank last in this category.

Rewatching the footage, yeah you're right, my memory had it Floyd got up in time but the ref stopped it. He still got up tho.
