Sergio is a sucka anyway. Why is he picking fights with guys who are barely making 147 when he can't even make 154? Sergio needs to step up and face the guys who were defeated in the Super 6 then fight Ward. In general. Sergio is a clown.
i have no problem with martinez taking on murray. it's a good fight with a top ten fighter. plus it's in argentina where sergio wants to put on a show for his fans in his own country... he doesn't really get the chance to fight in front of his own people, so he deserves this. no other top 20 fighter would have gone to sergios back yard would they? give the guy a break. if he refuses to fight GGG after this, then yeah, he should get some stick. i don't buy the excuse that GGG doesn't bring in money. i mean, did barker and macklin bring in that much when he took them on? not really. that would be a big fight that everyone would look forward to. it would definitely sell. but lets wait and see.
sorry bro, but at that time when Martinez fought with Barker and Macklin , I don't think 3G was even ranked in top 10 MW's or even known , excepting only the hardcore boxing fans ! After the Proksa fight and now after the Rosado fight , 3G got some market exposure ! ... and yes, at that time the fight against Macklin ( who beat Sturm but he got robbed and was in top 5 MWs according to RM ) was a more viable and profitable option than a fight with 3G who was unknown at that time and he didn't have market exposure !:yep - if somehow HBO would make to happen a fight between Jr / Geale / Macklin vs 3G and the winner of this fight would have to meet Martinez ( and lets say the winner would be 3G ) then yes , a Martinez vs 3G fight would make any sense , especially a financial sense !
Sergio has taken on all comers in the past, what, five years? He's coming off an incredible, dominant, PPV performance. He suffered some injuries in that fight, hand/knee, and now wants to fight in his homeland. He's fighting an undefeated #7 ranked MW. Wtf's the problem?
Williams wasn't cracking many eggs at 147, either. His problem has always been technique, regardless of weight. He also lost a fight to Quintana. And let's not forget that at 154, he had a very competitive back and forth VICTORY over the current middleweight champ. His punch resistance was fine until he got starched by Serg in the rematch. Hopkins had no interest in moving up until he had gotten his payday with DLH and had established his own brand. Tito got a belt for beating up William Joppy. There was no lineage there. His title was the result of a supposed "tournament" which was really nothing more than a Hopkins/Trinidad promotional tool. Golovkin reached mainstream about a year or two ago, yet "the top dogs have been chasing him for years". His competition has been worse than Martinez's, which is pathetic when you consider that he is supposed to be the hungry one on the way up. Here's an idea: let Golovkin get in the ring with someone the caliber of a Williams, Pavlik, or Chavez Jr., and then we can anoint him as the new Margarito and proclaim him the most feared man in boxing. Hopkins beat any and everyone at 160... yet stayed there for years with his 2% body fat self and called out welterweights, instead of looking to move.
Don't lump us all together, ******. I was rooting for Sergio, and am glad he won and WILL win again if he ever rematches that spoiled pothead brat. Jr was growing on me, but after that bull**** he pulled off in his camp preperation and all that, i've lost all hope for him. He's a disgrace, and any true hardcore mexican boxing fan knows this.
serg shouldnt take ne crap for this fight . murray first off is a very good fighter. an serg coming a decent lay off n surgery . 160 division is good but not many names , and hes like 37 years old by now n its gunna start to show
you've misread my post. if martinez took on GGG NOW, he would make more money than he did when he took on barker and macklin. he wouldn't make less that's for sure.
