Lost in all this... Props to Rees for getting his shot make the most of it. :good I like the way he held himself at the conference yesterday. Broner was kinda left holding the bag...
I'm not sure what took so long to make the decision, but it's made and there will be a doubleheader Saturday night (10:30 ET/PT) when, by the way, HBO will unveil a makeover to its "World Championship Boxing" theme music, graphics, logo and lighting. (Also, the iconic theme to its "Boxing After Dark" series will be no more when HBO makes a change to that, too, for the next edition of that show.) :huh Weird. So it was going to be Broner & Rees doing ring walks some time between 10:30 and 11pm, and now it's going to be potentially close to midnight (if Sjekloca can run for the full twelve)
Yeah, Bika vs. Sjekloca is a poor consolation prize. We'll still get a brutal knockout either way, but Banks vs. Mitchell II would have been more competitive on paper. :yep
Broner will work that body until it's time to open up, mid-to-late stoppage win for the problem IMO ........ I might have some cash on Rees seeing Rd 6 though, decent odds ..
Rees has an interesting lead right hand, sometimes loops it and runs behind it, could back Broner up and make things interesting. But Broner is far too good to lose IMO.
In reality, you could argue him anywhere from 2-5 in the UK. Burns obviously is way ahead of him, and h2h would easily beat him. (and in turn lose to Broner, albeit in more competitive fashion) Mitchell gets bumped down a notch after the Burns KO, but he was Britain's #1 lightweight and #1 in the WBO before the Katsidis loss and earned his way back up with the Murray victory to become #2. You could argue he still is the 2nd best in the country, as losing to #1 shouldn't knock you all that far down. I'm sure many Brits would still pick Mitchell over Rees tbh - and I probably would too. (though I'd be rooting for the Rock to bash his smug pretty-boy face in and give him a solid 30% chance of doing so...) John Murray has been inactive since the consecutive losses to Rios and Mitchell in 2011, but could arguably still be viewed as third best and hasn't actually retired. Again, losing to #2 in the country and then a world titlist shouldn't relegate you too low...especially when you were previously undefeated and on a great run. English champ Crolla if he beats Matthews in the rematch will be in the conversation, along with Prizefighter champion Flannigan building up a nice resume and the returned wildcard Harrison - Rees is probably in front of them all, but you can't say it's by miles or anything. In terms of significant accomplishment, in the last 20 months he's only beaten Dirty Derry in their rematch and that's it. In terms of h2h, I'm not sure any of the aforementioned three wouldn't be in with a real chance against Gavin slowing down a bit at 32. As for world? Lightweight is pretty weak, but still... Broner, Vasquez, Burns, Abril, DeMarco, Lundy, Beltran, Estrada, Molina, Diaz, Troyanovsky, Quintero, Bogere... Rees has been in nice form since losing to Kotelnik five years ago, but at domestic level. Excellent CV within Great Britain...nobody beaten is world class, though.
I imagine he stops Rees but Rees is moving down in weight and hasnt been stopped before and is an experienced guy maybe he finishes on his feet
Rees is not PDL Rees hasn't got the ability of PDL Rees has no where near as much power as PDL Rees cannot box a bigger man on the outside like PDL Rees doesn't have the reach of PDL (-6" despite bieng simuler height!) PDL has a silly reach for a man of his size. This is a one sided beatdown... PDL would kick Rees ass... This is a fight for Sadist's.
